Well, my first league in 18 years has come to an end. It was good to get back into "competition"...heck, it was good to be back bowling period after a 10 year layoff! I was a short stint (13 weeks - 4 in the third quarter and all 9 of the fourth quarter) since I didn't join the team until mid-January but I found that I did improve greatly from the first few weeks. The first few weeks were kinda rough as I was still knocking the rust off my game. I started out with a 170 average which dipped to 164 after the third week. After a few lessons to help "jump start" my game, I rebounded by raising my average up to 178...which included a 608 series in February and an average of 189.8 over the last five weeks of the season and had team high series four of the last six weeks. Next year, my goal is to maintain an average around 190 (or higher). All I have to do is quit missing the "easy" spares...dang 10 pin!!!
The team didn't fare too well, however. We battled for last place each of the last two quarters...fortunately, we dug ourselves out of the cellar each time on position night...I know it doesn't sound like much but we struggled mightly as a team and always seemed to catch teams that got hot when we bowl them. No joke, for five straight weeks, the team we bowled had a player that posted the league high series for that week...I did get to witness some very good bowling!
I'm hoping to find a spot in a summer league and will continue to work on my game over the summer in preparation for next year. There is one league that fits my schedule perfectly but its a scratch league...even though I've improved, I'm not ready to take on the "big guns" straight up.
