Varsity State Bowling Tournament
« on: March 28, 2004, 12:24:03 AM »
We just qualified for the State Tournament yesterday and I was wondering if there's a certain lane patern they have to put down for it.I would think that it would be heavy oil, but anyone know who's been in a state tournament already?

We have state here in Texas on the 3rd and 4th next month.  3 out of the 4 teams from our program made it to the show.  Last Saturday both our boys varsities and girls varsities made it to the final round of their district tournament.  Irving High School Boys varsity won beating Irving MacArthur boys and Irving MacArthur girls varsity beat Irving High School girls.  5 of 6 district high schools came to the tournament. We're proud of all our high school bowlers.  Whatever shot they put down our bowlers will be ready.

Smash, just wondering, but what does your boy's team average? We only average a 150 which I consider terrible but we finished 3rd in the regular season.Just wondering if it's the same everywhere or if it's true that I'm not facing very tough competition(which i'm not in this league.)

We carry 8 boys on the squad to meets, 3 of which switch out as JV.  All 8 together average 147.  Subtract the 3 JV bowlers and the core 5 average 163. High average is 183 and low 145.  For our baker games in the last tournament they shot 805 for 5 games with their worst game of the year included and that was 115.  Even with the 115 the baker average was 161.    On our boys varsity team we have the number 2 and 3 high average bowlers in the district.

Our MacArthur boys varsity the average are not quite as high but they shot 832 for 5 to get into the finals of the tournament.  Averaging 166 bakers format.

I volunteered back in November to lend a hand with the kids because they practiced across from our shop.  I passed my Bronze in August with nothing to do.  The first day I was announced as the new coach by the center(Wham Surprise).  All I cared about at first was getting them to keep the ball on the lanes and go from there.  Most of the team are seniors and time was critical to getting them anywhere close to competitive.  The best news everyone has consistently showed up and has been receptive to instruction.  We now have 2 Bronze coaches and I'm taking my Silver in August.  Between the 2 schools we have on average 45 students depending on the season sports ie. football, soccer and baseball.  This summer will allows for us to create a real program for development of skills and the promotion of our students.  I've found out quickly there is more to High School Bowling than just the 2 days of practice bowling and an odd meet.  As coaches and sponsors we are very aggressive and work with our students.   I've seen youth leagues where someone sits around drinking coffee and consider themselves coaches.

Wow,i'm on varsity...I guess that tells you what kind of program we have, but we are a small school and don't have much to choose from...I'm only a freshman carrying about a 180 average and after this year we're losing another 180 bowler,160,and 150 so we're gonna be down even more next year
