Tape question
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:10:29 AM »
I have a lot of problems finding a tape thatgives me a good release. Whenever I add a piece of tape I can no longer get out of the ball. I have tried black and white tapes with no success the black is a little better but not much. However, if my thumb hole is tight I have no problems getting out without tape. So I am obviously having problems due to the texture of the tape. Anoyone have any ideas of a tape that might be very similar to the feel of a normal thumb slug. My thumb  generally swells so by the end of the night I don't need the tape hardly at all. But until my thumb swells I struggle to get out of the ball, or I go without tape and stuggle with droping the ball and missing it at the bottom.

hey tdud36tjt
have you tried electrical tape?? it to me is thinner and smoother, but you need to remove it evertime after bowling it tends to get sticky if left in the hole in warmer weather.. also a buddy of mine has the same problem, he actually doesn't use the tape that goes into the holes anymore, he uses the tape that he puts on his thumb itself.. hes says that he likes it because of the where and the way you can put it on.. it can be placed on in its normal thickness or you can stretch it to make it thinner.. it is also a smoother+slippery tape feel.. just a thought, take a look...         slashrr69

Thanks for the reply. I currently use the green thumb tape but I still need tape for the thumb hole to make it snug. I don't think I could use the thumb tape to make the hole snug before my thumb swells as it takes around 2 pieces of white tape to make it snug. Maybe I'll just have to stick it out with the black tape. But I think my problem with that tape is that it gets sticky like you said electrical tape does. Thats why I am not sure about electrical tape but its worth a try.

tdub36tjt....try Franken Tape. I have a lot of problems with my thumb swelling and shrinking. I can have a thumb hole a bit loose and add white tape to the back of thumb hole and it is too much. The solution for myself and what many others have found is Valentino's Franken Tape. In fact I can now add a piece of white to the back of thumb hole and it may be a wee bit tight and then add a piece of Franken tape on top of it and then am able to get out of thumbhole with no problems with a tighter hole. Here is the link to Franken tape.

Thank you I will try that for sure sounds like it will probably work. Is it about the same size as the white tape (width wise).

Franken Tape is real thin, about as thick as a sheet of paper.

Width wise it is the same size as white tape and thinner than black tape and the feel of the surface is unique.

Try RonC's Magic Carpet. Works great and eliminates the problem with swelling and shrinking of the thumb. Allows a clean release all the time.

Tried it didn't care for it too much. Did help me stop knuckling the ball so I can't talk bad about it. Just didn't care for the feel.
