After an extended break due to knee surgery, I'm about to start back up. I'm a little concerned that my wrist may be sore/not hold up after the longer layoff.
Would taping the wrist be helpful in alleviating/preventing wrist pain. If so, is there anything in particular to watch out for?
Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

I haven't used tape on my wrist before. But, when I messed up a tendon in my wrist a few years ago, I ended up using a neoprene support to help manage any soreness. Here's an example of what I used: http://www.bowlingball.com/products/accessories/turbo-2-n-1-grips/11754/wrister-electric-blue.html
Tape can help with managing any pain/soreness you may have. One thing I would watch for if you go with tape or neoprene is to make sure that it's not too tight as it can cut off circulation.

Great advice, thanks. I'll look into a neoprene support.

Yes it can help but like tommyboy said, you need it tight but it shouldn't be too tight

Neoprene support is great to keep the wrist warm, too. The only issue I've had with them is if it's too tight my thumb tends to swell up.

Thank you all for your advice. Very helpful!

I use self adhesive tape, it's 3" wide and can be used over and over. I get it cheap off of eBay and never had the problem of it cutting off circulation in my hand. It also flexes really well so that helps

I have a sore wrist from worn out cartilage in between one of the joints.
I use this one, its adjustable and comfortable, offers great support

any walgreens, CVS or target has them for 10 bucks or less

Hadn't thought of self-adhesive tape. Makes sense. And thanks for the link to the elastic wrist support. Thanks luv and Dave for your input. It's greatly appreciated.

A few years ago I was taping my wrist because of pain. What I ended up using was the self-adhesive reuseable tape. For me, I found that I had more support for the wrist if I wrapped a couple of times between the thumb and first finger and then down around the wrist. Just wrapping around the wrist did not help me, but every situation is different so experiment and see what works the best for you.

Thanks MI. You're right; everyone needs to find out what works best for them. And I'll certainly give your option a try.
