Leadoff, setup, and anchor. I like balanced teams anyway, but these are the positions I want to load up on. Pretty much all of my teams are setup this way.
Most consistent, best spare shooter bowlng leadoff. I also prefer someone who doesnt tend to complain about anything (this can spread through the team)
Worst bowler (average/inconsistency) bowling second. Sometimes there can be nothing wrong with this person, it just works out that thats where they fit in.
Potential spot (not as bad a 2 hole---more upside, less downside) is third. When these people shoot 550 it doesnt kill you, and when they shoot 700 they can carry the team. However they are never put in a pressure situation where they feel the burden.
Clutch bowler in the 4th spot---because if hes not clutch sometimes the anchor never has a chance.
Anchor bowler is either the highest average or as a tiebreaker the person least affected by late game pressure.
Another thing that goes into team lineups is trust. Most of the leagues I bowl in are Peterson points (head to head matches as well as team points). If I feel a teammate will win just as many individual points as I would in the anchor spot and maybe do better when the team needs strikes, I will defer to them and move myself higher in the lineup. It allows for intimidation of lower average bowlers which in turn gives your team an added advantage.
Sometimes having the high average at the bottom is a no-brainer. Sometimes there are people that just find ways to win no matter where they bowl. You need to know who these people are and be honest with yourself. Your team cant fail from there.
