What brand glue for finger inserts
« on: December 24, 2004, 06:55:52 AM »
Just curious what brand of super glue is best for doing your own inserts. My center charges $10 a pair to do them and it doesn't make sense to take it there, especially with a 6+ ball arsenal. I don't bowl enough to change them out every 6 weeks as I've heard you should, but I ordered some Vise Grips and was wondering what glue does the best job without making a big mess when it comes time to re-do them. Any help from you guys would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Spike

Any superglue should work, just make sure not to put too much, otherwise it will cause cracking.

Griploc.

It gives you a couple of seconds to adjust the insert, if necessary, and it has a non-clogging applicator tip.

Pliobond.  Easier to remove.

Vise recommends cynoacrylate.  It comes in different mixes, thinest, thin, thick.  Works well and avaliable at many hobby stores.

I use Super Glue Gel. I put one tiny drop about the size of a pin head half way down on the two sides of grip and put nothing in the front and back of grip. It sets up almost instantly and is far enough down (approx. 1") that it won't cause any cracks in the ball. This also allows you to shim the front or back of grip for tightness if needed. I have yet to have a grip come loose plus the grips are easy to remove with a small screwdriver with a 1/4" head or less.

I use the Turbo 2n1 glue from any bowling distributor.  It works really well.

Lots of good tips! Thanks. Will have to try a couple to see which ones work best. What's the difference between a brand name super glue you buy at Wal-Mart and the ones that sell for $10 or more from internet bowling sites?
