The 2009 Brunswick Aalborg International was conducted on a dual lane condition. The long pattern was 45 ft and the short pattern was 35 ft. Kegel does the lane maintenance on the European Bowling Tour so these patterns can be found in Kegel's pattern library at http://www.kegel.net/patternlibrary/default.asp

I had the opprotunity to play on a similar condition in training, when Kegel prepared lanes for an EBT tournament in Duisburg, Germany, and tuned the machine. Bowlers were allowed to "test" the patterns, though, and it was a nice and unexpected occasion.

It is challenging. While the patterns were not too compliacted to play, the difference between them and their change in the longer run was the bigger problem. On the short pattern I used my Smash Zone - the ONLY occasion the ball actually worked well - the long one with my Frankie May Gryphon (the strongest piece I had in the bag).

I think that the best preparation is to sort out a reliable arsenal, and be mentally prepared to get way different reads from the lanes. Keep the game simple!

I bowled in that tournament. Both patterns are fairly easy. They both played the way those lengths normally play. The short should be attacked from outside (a lot of urethane were used) and the long from inside (with medium agressive equipment). Nothing complicated and the cut number proved it. 1390 to make the finals speaks for itself. For those who are interested the results can be found here http://www.bai2010.dk/resources/1/results/BAI2009.pdf
