Hey all,
Quick question......our new house has a neat little "room" in the corner of the garage that has 2 walls that attach to the house. Our place is not set up very conveniently for me to bring my bowling balls in and out and clean them in the house. I set up a little "shop" so-to-speak in that corner of the garage. I laid down some old carpet from our old place to keep some dampness out as well.
Now the last few days here in Michigan have been brutally cold, and my stuff is inside in our 'mechanical room'....we're talking 18 degrees for a HIGH ! Anyhow, today after work I stopped by the hardware store and picked up a wall thermometer to see what the temp is in the corner of that room where the equipmnet is/was.
Just a bit ago, I went in the garage to see it and it read 46 degrees (our garage is insulated
)
Is that TOO cold for equipment? Keeping in mind, the equipment sits on 3 layers of carpet, and are covered in a huge old down blanket / old sleeping bag. I would venture to say a tad bit warmer than what the thermometer is reading under the blanket.
What do you think ? Too cold ? I know stuff shouldn't go to extreme temp changes, and I don't think going from an alley at about 70 degrees and havin them slowly cool to 46 is going to do anything, but I just wanted to make sure and ask the experts on site
Thanks!

Hello, I just lowered my track !

I leave my stuff in the car when it's those temps at night - I just make sure and bring it inside the bowl about an hour or so before league so it can warm up slowly. (I'm NOT lugging that much equipment in and out of my house...)
the past few days it's been below freezing here, so I have brought my stuff in.
I know that if I were in Michigan, I'd probably set up an alarm of some sort to go off if that little room dipped much lower than 40.

Mumzie, thanks, so do I, I bring my stuff in about an hour before I leave so it warms up to the temp of our house before I leave for the lanes.....I agree there.....

Left a Wildcat outside in the truck , 3/4 yrs ago whenever that ball was just out, overnight. (0 degrees out or so)
Next day went to bowl and the ball was in about 20-30 pieces, looked like it blew up.

Bad idea leaving them outside or in a trunk. Could be a costly mistake someday!

Jeff,
I'd say 45 degrees was acceptable. I'd worry if it went below 40 degrees or over 90 degrees. I'd suspect that it might get colder in Jan and Feb so I'd keep a close watch on that temperature gauge especially around midnight or 6/7 AM. A friend in Iowa has been getting a lot of below 0 temperatures.
Also like Mumzie said, you want the balls to be stabilized before bowling with them. Too cold is no good for your fingers, no less the ball.

thanks all,
Charlest, today was strange, we were going to have a high and low of about 12-15. At 6pm the temp in that corner was 45 degrees. I know it can get colder, but I would venture that this is one of the colder spells we should see this winter...(God I hope !
)
And just to add again, I do bring them in and stabalize them before bowling,...always

I lug my balls inside whenever I am home because we have been having highs of like 7 degrees, and lows of 0 or so. I have bowled with frozen balls, its hard to walk let alone bowl!!I need warmer pants. haha sorry kidding, but seriously I have tried to bowl after leaving my balls in a car all night. Not Good! I will never do that again

10:40 pm est: UPDATE
Corner of the garage, 48 degrees. It's 8 outside right now. As long as I stabalize them back to room temp before I leave, I should be ok.
Anyone else ?
