Temporary dots on the approachs
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:14:50 AM »
Recently I have changed my game to the point now to where I am standing almost 2 feet in front of the first set of dots at 12 feet on the approach.  With out those dots and markings in front of me I am finding it hard a times to make sure that I am standing on the correct board at the beginning of my approach.  I have tried to follow the board from I want to stand on at the first set of dots and then move forward to my starting position, but it just does not feel right.  My thought is either to buy, or have made up, some temporary dots that are stickers to place out on the approach on the respective boards at like 9 or 10 feet so I can reference those at my starting position.  They would in no way be a means to create an eye sore or a hindrance to any of my fellow bowlers.  I am talking about a solid colored dot not bigger than size of an eraser head.  I guess my first question is this even legal?  Secondly, if it is legal, and you were bowling on a pair in which someone did this would you have any objections or quandaries about this?

what i usually do is follow the dots and look at how many left or right i am from that dot... usually the board is dark or light so its easy to remember where i was.

I'm not sure of the legalities of it but it may distract some bowlers, you know the prissy ones that dont know anything about mental game and blocking out all distractions. What exactly do you mean it doesnt feel right? i understand going through alot of changes, its not going to feel right for a while. "What has felt right for you doesnt work you need to. . . Try some wrong dawg" (40 year old virgin). im just saying keep going at it until it does feel right. I think the dots would be a crutch more than anything and would hinder you from truly improving. I say do away with the dots and keep practicing, until its second nature. Just my opinion Good Luck

I don't think a sticker would be a good idea whether its legal or not. The reason I say this is because it could come up and create a footing problem for anyone bowling on the pair. If you were to do anything I would think a small pencil mark would be best because it can't mess with anyones footing and is easily removed when your done bowling without any traces of stickyness or residue.
