Title: Terminology
Post by: SrKegler on July 17, 2003, 04:04:56 PM
Well guys I'm confused again, as usual.  I saw a post where someone wanted information on lane conditions.

What is a definition of light, medium & heavy oil.  I know my house uses 50 units for 41 ft.

PWBA site says they used 29.10 mililiters in a recent tournament.  Is that light, medium, heavy.

How much oil is in a unit???

What do you guys use a a standard to figure out your conditions.

I’m not sure what the definition of a unit is either.

The house I had bowled at the last 25 years (that just closed) never put down more than 25 units in the middle of the lane and would go to 5 units on the outside. The run was 35 with a buff to 40. Many in the area would call this medium to light. And by the end of a second shift the heads would burn up.

I know that other houses in the area would go as high as 100 units in the heads in the middle.

A unit is defined as a measurement of dressing film thickness equivalent to .0167 cubic centimeters of dressing per square foot of lane surface.
