Last week you posted a topic on "Some bowlers are smarter than others", about how a bowler started bowling a different line than others at the start giving up the first game to score better later on. I put that idea in the back of my head.
So far this season in my league, I had been having trouble with the lane conditions being too short, and having too much backend reaction to find a comfortable area to play. Being a lefty, I don't get the chance to see the lanes transition to a point where I can take advantage of burning a track to play.
After reading your topic, I decided to try something a little different. I normally like to swing my shots from around 20 to 10, warming up last night I still had problems with the ball turning up to soon. The first game, I decided to play up the ten board staying behind the ball, not a good scoring shot for me, but I thought playing that line, I would get some carry down inside my breakpoint down the lane for my later shots. I ended up throwing several splits and a couple of strikes for a 150 game, and noticed that my breakpoint had moved further down the lane as I hoped.
In the second game, I went back to my normal shot. I had created some carry down on the lane, and I now was able to get the ball down lane much better and have good movement in the back end. The result was a 233 in the 2nd game, and a 247 in the third game. I ended up winning two pots, and my team took 5 points for the night, I finally broke thru the 600 mark with a nice 630 series.
Reading your posts always gives me new insights into the mental approach and lane play in the game we love. Thanks for your insight into the different aspects to the game, and keep them coming.
