Title: Thanks ESPN
Post by: kev3inp on September 07, 2008, 05:04:54 AM
I tuned in to watch the women bowl and instead there's some neck-car race.  Thanks, ESPN.  Oooo, a left turn!  Oooo, another left turn!  Don't know if I can stand the excitement.

The USBC website says the US Open will follow the current "show", whatever that is.

ESPN screws bowling yet again!

If you were participating, I'd understand. You're watching it. Any thrill you get is just vicarious - might as well be watching NASCAR and wait for the deaths to happen.

Watching the PWBA women bowl is appreciating an athlete executing prime athletic skills.

Due to weather issues the race was pushed back to Sunday. Live events will always trump tape delayed events. NASCAR brings in a heck of alot more money then women's bowling also.

I really don't give a rats behind about the NFL.  What, I can watch the Dolphins?  Puh-leeeese!  I don't need to conform to Neanderthal views of so called "manhood" to be confident in my masculinity. I guess you guys do.  Awww, too bad for you.  They never show my team down here, so I don't care. I guess nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public, so ESPN panders to lowlife inbreds that 20 of them would make a whole set of teeth.  Enjoy your race.  I'm off to the bookstore to do something intelligent with my time. Go brush your tooth.

Enough! It's a moot pointwhat's a sport and what's not. I don't really care enough to make a point by point comparison.

ESPN was supposed to show Bowling and it didn't. Even my online TV guide still shows bowling shows from 2 PM to 4:00 or so, Eastern time.

I know ESPN is soo messed up, I can't count the times that I was looking forward to watching a bowling show, then find that it was some stupid bull riding show or some dum nascar show that you go around in circles for 4 hours....Right now, I just looked at the tv guide and it shows a dum bull riding show, woopdy do.... Someone needs to do something, thats for sure.

Dumb red neck sport?

How many enigners are involved in Nascar, if you only knew the half of what goes into making a car go left at those speeds you'd have a little more respect for those of us that make a living at ohh another left turn, is bowling not the same thing. a ball making another left turn into the pocket opp look another pretty ball delivered by a pretty woman for another left turn to the pocket.

true. but my point is nascar is not just a red neck sport any more.

Just tired of hearing how one thing is better than the other and blah blah blah. Do what we do one weekend, and tell me that any red neck could come in set the car up, make adjustments, and be that smooth and precise for 4 hours. I know it's just a left turn, but behind the scenes is so much more than that and people take it for granted. A little respect, just like the pba not any one can just step in and drive the car. The foreign influx has proven that.

Yeah. I really don't agree that it's a redneck sport. Its just a coincidence that some of the people that watch nascar have mullets and look like the typical redneck. But I know many people that watch nascar that are not rednecks. And I know what you mean. And I agree,

I know nobody cares about just one person not be able to watch it, but I'm just sayin.

For what it's worth, pretty much anything other than the NFL would have been pre-empted for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.  NASCAR is a huge draw, and ESPN has a big investment in them.  And in fact, they're pre-empting World Series of Poker coverage right now to show the NASCAR Nationwide Series race.  (Both events were delayed by rain and wind caused by the hurricanes and tropical storms off the coast)

Television management/executives only care about one thing: money! Higher ratings allows them to charge more for advertisements. Of course, we all know that!

What irks me is that the on-screen guide for DirecTV is even wrong, when broadcasting LIVE things. They showed IndyCar racing on the guide but Nascar on the screen. A whole bunch of things were screwed up, including not getting ANY bowling at all.

Oh well, at least one league starts tomorrow night.

You can blame tropical storm Hanna for the problem. The NASCAR race was supposed to be on ABC Saturday night but it was delayed until Sunday ay 1 eastern due to the storm. And I don't care what insults you hurl about NASCAR, it draws WAY more viewers and sponsors than bowling or near anything other than the big time sports will so of course it will pre-empt anything that was there first. I managed to DVR it after the race and it was an OK show.

Blame ESPN all you want but any other network would have done the same thing.

What made me laugh was that those same insults people are hurling at NASCAR can be used to describe most league hacks as well.  But I guess this is a bowling forum so we can go around making fun of that crowd now can we?

70,000 metric tons of rain fall from Tropical Storm Hanna, forcing a scheduling change which creates the most inconvenient of all inconveniences(the preempting of women's bowling in favor of a sport that attracts 2340 times more viewers) and this cornhole's complaining?

Sorry about the exaggeration.

68,578 metric tons, not 70K.

Sorry, I'm just not interested in guys driving around in a circle. At least there could be a few crashes to liven things up.  That's all anybody watches for anyway.  I know there's tons of engineering that goes into it, but it doesn't impress me.  If engineering was fascinating we'd be watching the space program, or what's left of it.  Just because it's popular doesn't make it good.  Sorry if your intelligence has been insulted, or you feel you've been lumped in with a bunch of morons with a lack of dental hygiene. I'd rather watch drag racing or grand prix for motorsports.

What's most confusing to me is that you can't figure out that ESPN, like any other business entity, tries to make money.  When there's a waiting list for season tickets to attend men's, women's, youth, gorilla, giraffe, etc. bowling events, in addition to the 110,000 that attended the Richmond race on Sunday afternoon, ESPN might actually show NASCAR on ESPN Classic.  Besides, isn't a LOT more fun to find out who won an event, fail to place "spoiler" in the topic when the winner is congratulated because it's tape-delayed by three weeks, and then have a thread to flame about?

And drag racing is just guys driving in a straight line and road racing is just guys driving in really convoluted twisty circles.  Oval racing is a hell of a lot more than "guys just driving in circles," but people like you will never get it, so it's a waste of time trying to explain it.  (And for what it's worth, I personally enjoy watching racing on ovals, road courses, street circuits, drag racing, etc.)

Hell, this could have been great for the Women's U.S. open, I mean they had 329249842824024 more viewers watching the show before them then they probably would have had if nascar wasn't put on.

And again, the going circles thing. Wow. Bowling has the same misconceptions, it's just throwing a ball down a lane, anybody can do it....

What's confusing to me is you can't figure out that I know ESPN makes more money from the horde of bubbas who watch it, but I don't care about that. I'm not interested in it.  So 110,000 people show up.  Soccer is more popular worldwide than NASCAR, so since even more people watch it, I'm sure you're glued to ESPN Deportes.  No, not interested? But look at how much money it makes. Look at how many are into it. See, who cares?

Thats ok by me.  I love NASCAR and bowling but I wasted an hour of my life listening to old Bo Burton and Marshall Holman and there outdated 1950's to 1980's bowling knowledge.  I mean are you kidding me?  If I heard one more time ask Shannon O'Keefe why did Diandra switch to her plastic ball for the ten pin, I was going to shot myself.  Geez!!!  Are you telling me they couldn't get Randy Peterson to do the play by play?  They know nothing of the modern game and modern bowling equipment.  They should be put on the shelf like thier ancient bowling equipment!!
