Just a team player
« on: April 04, 2005, 04:40:34 AM »
There must be something in my makeup that makes me try harder when teamed with other bowlers.

In traditional 3 event tournaments I have always had pretty good success with the team and double events but have seldom done well in singles. In my last 6 tournaments my best series have been in the doubles event.

I have won a couple of singles tournaments and I have won all events titles in tournaments but I have never won a singles title in one of these events.

Time is running out for this year and it gets harder and harder to compete with the kids. I have two tournaments left but neither will be an easy chore to win a singles title.

That's funny you say that I feel the same way. Last thursday in league I punched out to win a game for our team and I was so off that whole game. I guess I just love the pressure, that to me is such a rush..

Uh, when are we bowling doubles next?

I'm a team bowler.  I had the highest team average last year in tournaments, which is quite the accomplishment considering the teammates I keep.  I just like the sharing the winnings.  It's not as much fun to win by yourself.

I can relate Pinbuster. I've bowled 3 doubles/singles/teams tournaments this year in 3 different states this season. My highest score in 2 of the 3 tournaments was in the doubles, followed closely behind by my teams score. Only in one of the three tournaments was my highest set the singles event. I've always felt an importance for putting a good number out there for my teammates, and like to see what we can throw together collectively. We'll see how the trend goes as I have 3 more tournaments coming up in the next 2 months that are traditional 3 event tournaments, before I start tackling some singles tournaments over the summer.

Well... I don't believe we are bowling in doubles together at the Greater Ozarks so he can't complain there . He prefers to bowl with good bowlers not an old rag like me.

But I'll probably now win the singles there... wouldn't that be a shame!

(Actually what will happen is I'll probably dump my double and team events partners)

The beat goes on.

Ksucat called me Friday evening, they were going to a tournament on Saturday and a couple of bowlers had back out at the last moment so I said I would go.

We bowled all 9 games on Saturday. My singles was so-so score, my team score was bad but it didn’t matter most of team bowled bad, but in doubles my partner and I took over the lead.

I was paired with ksucat’s father in law so the old men showed them how to do it. We both shot little 700’s and beat the previous high score by 7 pins. There is still two more weeks to go in the tournament but we will probably get a good check at least.

Now if I could just get rid of my stubborn streak I would probably shot decent in team but that is another story.

I have the same problem... I usually shoot horribly during singles but doubles and team events I'm lights out.

ksucat - Well this time you put yourself in the box with your token lefty just like my teams token lefty can be a burden most of the time. He dumped you, you didn't dump him.
