2005 World Rankings Pattern
« on: May 09, 2009, 07:32:42 AM »
Has anyone bowled on this pattern?  If so, how did it play for you?

on edit:

Just bowled an 8 gamer on it and it sorta played like a reverse block.
Anything outside of 10 was like throwing darts, and if you tried to belly
it a bit to hit some dry boards, you were cleaning gutters.  If you tried
playing inside it hooked off the chart.  was pretty tough to say the least.
Was just curious if anyone has had a chance to throw on the pattern.

Shot should have started developing between 5-7 if it was being played correctly.

I wish.  couldnt play that far out all day, it wouldnt make the turn.
I played a little fluff belly inside.  if you tried to swing and it got
outside of ten, you were dead.

Were you swinging it to that area or playing more or less directly down that area?

Should have had a ton of back end reaction on that short of a pattern.  Really makes me wonder about how well the center's lane machine is striping the old pattern off the lane if you weren't seeing that.

If you were throwing it left to right with a ball that was too strong or not matched up properly you would have thought the pattern was a reverse block.  That pattern doesn't look terribly difficult depending on the lane surface.

the pattern doesnt look difficult, but I was curious if anyone bowled on it.
the lanes didnt play like the pattern shows.  I agree, there should of been
alot of backend on that short of a pattern, but like I said it didnt play like
it.  Myself and others complained that it wasnt the pattern, but they assured us
it was.

during practice, using the Requiem, I tried to play up 5 and the ball sailed
and hardly moved.  so i figure keep moving in until i found a breakpoint.
didnt find a breakpoint until i was around 15 at the arrows.  but then when
i found that breakpoint it took off left telling me the ball was to strong to
play tight inside.

next i went to weeker ball, my trusty Zr40.  it didnt have a chance in hell
trying up 5, and still had too much backend trying to play around 15.  come to
find out later during practice, that everything had too much backend playing
inside.

so next i try sanded S75 and figure i could hit it good playing around 5-10
and it should move.  well it moved, but very little...lol

format was 8 games, moving a pair right each game.

so after 2 games & variations i tried i figured the best line was a little
fluff belly around 15.  and it worked but after games of 168 & 109(4 gutters)
& a little anger management I hunkered down for games of 202, 189, 216, 206.
i was making my climb back into it, until midway through 7th game i developed
a blister.  and it was just my luck that i didnt have any super glue and neither
did anyone else.  i didnt want to tear up my thumb anymore so i was relegated
to a 165 & 126 game for the last two finishing -219.  cash was -130.

Overall, i wasnt too disappointed.  if i had game 2 back and if my thumb
held/or i had superglue, i may have made a run.  but, i am satisfied with
the line i settled on playing.  but the shot did not play like the
35ft 2005 World Rankings, but the one they had was still difficult, and i still
had a fun time.

Im going to agree with a poster above and say that it was something amiss with the lane machine.  A short pattern shouldn't have "free hook" if you heave it right, but it definitely should have plenty of hook if you go up the lane.
