How many have switched over to 2 handed style ?
« on: April 01, 2010, 03:11:25 PM »
Just curious
Ive been debating it after really watching a lot of videos on youtube of Jason and Osku
and decided to give it a try tonight during my practice session and I really liked the results

I have a lot less soreness in my left knee (Im a righty)
and also a lot less stress on my wrist

I thought it might be a little easier on my body was mainly my reasoning for trying it out
My 1 hand delivery has a kind of high backswing and really cocked and cupped wrist and lately my shoulder and wrist have been bothering me

accuracy of course was not as good as I normally have but I really didnt shoot any games under 200 (shot about 10 total)
and was able to stay around my mark about 85% of the time

so who else here has fully switched over ?
Im seriously considering trying it for the rest of my league season and a few tourmnaments

About a year ago I switched over due to a wrist injury.  I''m in my 20''s, but I experience much LESS stress on my wrist, knee, and back when bowling two handed.  There are some muscles that were sore when I started but that soon went away.

I average about 220-225 one handed.  After a year of bowling two handed I average about 215-220.

I recently just switched back to one handed and am giving it a go... hopefully the wrist holds up.

Here are some of my pros and cons

Pros

More Speed
More Revs
Ability to open up lane
Strike percentage
Less Pain
Ability to play lines nobody else ca

Cons

Accuracy
Fighting VERY DRY tournament conditions
VERY TIGHT patterns
Very CLEAN backends
Versatility
FINDING HELP WHEN YOU ARE BOWLING BAD!!!!!

After bowling two handed, I really understand that guys like Belmonte and Osku are FRICKIN GOOD BOWLERS.  It takes a lot more than revs to score on PBA patterns...

Hope this helps, good luck if you do switch

Yeah
thanks
I average about 215-220 one handed and have a decent rev rate and speed
around 400 rev and 19mph speed
the reason for switching is not to hook or rev it more
its much easier on my wrist
my accuracy was not as bad as I expected it to be
so I think Im gonna give it a shot and change over

what equipment did you find worked better for you ?
what type of drilling were you using ?

last night I was using something drilled Rico and it worked very good for me

I usually will practice it for the "just in case" scenario. It does feel very natural and easy to do once you memorize the cadence of the steps. I have more than enough revs though, but I could see a time when I would use it if I had to play outside and needed even more bite to read a heavy sport pattern.

I can see why so many people are doing it now, because it does feel very natural, and suprisingly a lot less muscling of the ball seems to be going on.

In regard to equipment, I've found the choices for two-handed bowling to be the same as those for one-handed. On typical house shots, I can use just about anything I please. Now, obviously, hook-in-a-box aggressive stuff usually isn't the best idea, but even that can generally be used if your pattern as enough length and volume. When I'm on tighter patterns, I favor symmetrical cores and some surface on the cover, at least on the fresh. I've had very good looks with my Onyx Vibes (one at 2000 abralon, one at box), Hyroad (2000 abralon), Raw Hammer Jacked (Box) and Reign. I've also found a great deal of virtue in urethane as well. I used my Natural for 5 of the 6 games during singles and doubles at the Open Championships, and I averaged 206 during those games. I guess the point I'm making is to avoid the thinking that you need stuff that goes long and saves energy. Because two-handers tend to have such high speed and revs, there are several situations where you'll actually need surface to give the ball a footprint on the lane and keep it from going nuts off the spot.

About equipment...

It really is similar to one handed with a high rev rate.  It really depends on your ball roll too.  Like Gene said, anything works on the China.

Surface is your friend on the fresh.  My favorite layout when they are blown open was a pin right above the bride, cg in the center of my grip.  I tracked really high so I'm guessing this about a 5 3/4 layout?

Just like bowling one handed, its not about getting the ball to finish at the 7 pin.  It's about getting the ball to split the 8/9.

Yeah last night I was using a Roto Grip Oracle drilled Rico with OOB finish
also used a Dark Star Pin up over bridge CG kicked to the right
the oracle rolled very nice and smooth and finished nice off the dry like a Rico drilling normally does
the Dark Star was pretty jumpy off the dry but I was able to control with a slight movement of my hand
this was on a fresh THS shot at a house that is middle level of friction and backends
I want to get some practice in on a sport shot and see how it works out,
Im gonna give it a try at league this coming week and see what happens

I was really surprised how accurate I was able to be, I really didnt miss my mark by more than a few boards on just about every shot,
there were a few where I got it a little right of my break point but nothing drastic

I normally like pin up drilling and pearl coverstocks
but the Dark Star looked like it was sliding just a little too much compared to the oracle which is a solid
thanks for everyones replies hoping to shoot some video next time I go out

Any videos online teaching this style???  I've tried a couple times
during some open bowling, but can't seem to get the little "hop-skip"
footwork down.  I'm scared I'm gonna fall on my face!!!

I practice with it for fun. It makes my lower back pretty sore. Also a friend had to take a yr off bc his back muscle was so one-sided that it was shifting his spine.
