The ball you missed out on that everyone loved
« on: December 21, 2012, 09:10:20 AM »
Is there anyone out there who feels like they really missed out on a great ball?

I missed the boat on:

Total NV
Action
Virtual Gravity
The whole 505 series (A, C, T)

The original X-factor and the The Thing from Dynothane. Saw and heard nothing but great things but never owned or got to throw them.

I wasn't much of a bowler when this ball was released but I'll say the Cuda/C pearl and Jade Piranha/C. Wish I had the knowledge now 17 yrs ago! lol

Virtual Gravity (I bought Hammer's The Sauce instead. Good ball, regardless.)
Pure Physics
Power Machine (That ball looks awesome)
In the bag:

Roto Grip Magic Gem
Motiv Primal Shock
Hammer Ocean Vibe

I can relate. The reason I missed out on the Action is because I bought The One. Definitely made the right choice there.

I missed a bunch because I'm too damn picky when it comes to investing in a bowling ball.

Let's see, there's the One series, the Gamebreaker (every re-release as well), the Cell series (although I did throw a friend's and didn't care too much for it at the time), Dimension, 920T, Rising, Uprising, 505 series, 715C. Those are just a few.

However, I got a barely used Power Machine and Mean Machine from a friend that's a ball whore. He didn't like the fact that the thumb was drilled a little too big and never used the balls. All I had to do was open the thumb a little bit with sandpaper and I got two of my 3 favorite balls of all time. The other being my Brunswick Punisher that I really learned to bowl with.

I started bowling back in the urethane days, so a few of mine are from that era as well. Here are the ones that I missed out on:

Ebonite Nitro; AMF Sumo; Ebonite Turbo X; Storm Trauma ER; Storm El Nino X-IT; Brunswick Intense Inferno; Brunswick BVP Rampage; Brunswick Punisher; Roto Grip Cell, Roto Grip Cell Pearl; Lane 1 Cherry Pearl C2 (I had one, and I drilled it for the wife. Ouch!).

FYI, for the guy who mentioned missing out on the DT The Thing, my driller has a single drill used one on the used rack in the shop. It's in great shape. If you're interested, call 815.939.2695, and ask for Lance. He owns the shop.

I missed out on the Following:

Black Widow Series
Virtual Gravity
Power Machine
REsurgance

The main reason was I never really got into the high end equipment. I like to think the low-mid price stuff is just as good, however, i do have a Hellraiser Revenge on order. My first high end ball in a few years.

I've drilled a lot of the balls people consider the "best" and honestly most of those were my least favorite balls....the black widow and every ball I've thrown with that core has been terrible for me. The gamebreaker was ok nothing special. I did live the nv series and the cell. The cell pearl was terrible for me. The VG same thing....granted a lot of these might have been awesome with different layouts and my game has changed but i no longer get caught up in the hype of balls. Some of the best balls for me have been ones that barely got recognized.....

I had a Total NV. Drilled it up a year after being discontinued. I wish I had sold it instead.

There are several to list, but they are worth more undrilled then drilled. Sometimes it is best just to let them go.
