A while back I had posted a message about my "comeback" to bowling and it's a good time to tell another chapter...and I will try to be brief.
In December of 2004 I badly broke my right femur in a freak accident at home (just before getting in the shower to go bowling! lol)...to make a long story short I needed 4 surgeries in all (over two years), nearly bled to death during the first one, lost 40 lbs and have lost almost all range of motion in my right knee.
After what feels like ages of rehab and practice I returned to my league two weeks ago tonight. I was very nervous because before the accident I had been a fairly well known bowler in our area and carried a high average. I was worried that people would expect me to be the same but I know that I cannot due to the physical changes, esp. in my leg and knee. They even made an announcement welcoming me back and when my first ball happened to be a strike they gave me a nice hand...(little to they know it nearly made me want to cry..lol)
Anyway I shot 214, 178 and 148 the first night but tonight (after drilling a second ball) I shot 251 the third game for 653.
Being a 227 average bowler before the accident I never thought that 653 could mean as much to me as it does right now. And I can tell you this much...I'll never take bowling for granted again and the next time we have six guys show up, I will be fighting to stay in!
Feels good right now and I just wanted to share the short version of my story. Thanks to all those old ballreview pals who kept in touch and wished me well along the way!
