The exempt tour next season

There is one thing I don't understand about next year's tour. My nephew is thinking of going pro, but want to wait and make sure he is comfortable enough with it to handle the pressure full time. If he waits til next season to turn pro, does that mean he will never make the t.v. shows? Am i misunderstanding what it means? Or is it only going to be 64 bowlers on the pro tour next year? Someone please explain this to me, because apparently I'm to dumb to figure it out on my own.

Yes I know with a little research I could probably get the answer for myself, but I also with the knowledgable people here, someone has to have the answer.

Only 64 players will be allowed into PBA held events. The US open and Masters will be have their own rules and field sizes.

The top 50 from the points list and/or 2003-2004 tournament winners are in.

Seven spots are reserved for special exemptions. Be that local regional pros, at least one local amateur, someone the sponsors/PBA to bowl a particular tournament.

Seven spots to be given to the seven top qualifiers out of a special qualifying tournament to be held. Anyone who is not otherwise qualified (I am assuming you must be a member and possibly have had to cash in 2 regionals) can enter this tournament. My understanding is that it will be held over 5 days using all the PBA conditions with the top 7 getting exemption into the next years tour, same as the top 50.

This could end up with 200 to 300 bowlers trying for 7 spots. National Pro’s who didn’t qualify as well as anyone wanting to come out of the regional ranks.

If your nephew really wants to succeed, he'll start with the regional program. If he sees success there, he may be able to move up to the national program. Regionals use the same type of lane conditions and close to the level of competition, but do not require that you "quit your day job" in order to compete.
