Thanks for the Thumbhole Answers, now I have one more?
« on: December 17, 2003, 11:31:39 AM »
I talked to the proprietor today about my thumb slipping about twice a night.  I know that's not a lot but when you throw 10 good shots in a row you don't want to be thinking about a miss fit thumb hole.  Anyway, he suggested a piece of white textured tape, about half the width of the black tape i've been using.  I put the white tape in front (the pressure point) of the hole as far down as possible.  It was probably the best by ball has fit all year and with a smooth release I got more fingers in it as well.  I am a 199 ave bowler (if anyone was curious, if not then please disregard).  With the great feel tonight I bowled a 749.  My highest of the year and third 700.  Anyway, I am just happy about all the suggestions I recieved today and yesterday on this topic.  Thanks to everyone.
BUT...:O)   Yep, there's a but.  I left tonight and forgot to ask what the tape was actually called or where I could get some.  Unfortunately he said he didn't have any in stock, just a few pieces laying around.  All I know is that the width of the tape is about pinky finger width and has some texture to it.  The tape also came on paper with "dinosaur" pictures on the back.  Does anyone have any idea what this tape may be called or somewhere online where I can purchase some.  Thanks to anyone who may help.

You might also want to try Magic Carpet.  If you go to the following site and email Ron, he will send you a sample to try:

http://www.bowl4fun.com/magiccarpet/magiccarpet.htm

It goes on the back side of the thumb hole and snugs up the thumb but because of its texture, will allow air to pass thru the fibers, so even with a snug fit, the thumb can exit cleanly.

With the exception of the "dinosaur" pictures it sounds like your typical 1/2" bowling tape.  I know that Master Industries makes tape this size...not too sure if the other tape manufactures do?

I think Ebonite makes it, too.  Even if you can't find the width you're looking for, just take a piece of 1" tape and rip it in half.  Viola!  Instant 1/2" tape.

Here's another thing to consider - bowling tape ain't cheap. Usually around 4 to 6 $$ for a box of 30 pieces. MAKE YOUR OWN. There are 4 or 5 differnt brands of white medical tape available at your local Walmart/Rite-Aid/Thriftys/Generic Drug Store that come in widths from 1/2 to 1" and various textures. Cut your own tape. I like the Johnson & Johnson waterproof tape in the 1" roll - I just cut off about a 1-3/4" piece, trim the edges to the desired width, and I have cheap tape. I also round the top so it looks like the bowlers tape. I get about 200 pieces out of a 5$ roll of tape.
