The Gathering 2009 - UPDATE
« on: November 17, 2008, 03:37:33 PM »
I heard from Ron and he is good for whenever we decide.  The group had to make a decision to skip Vegas.  SOOOOOO let's make it official for July 24 - 26.

For those new to BR, this is an annual gathering of bowlers from all over.  It basically involves bowling, socializing, bowling, eating, bowling, eating, bowling, drinking, bowling, eating, and oh did I mention bowling .  Our own Magic Carpet, Mrs Magic Carpet, and the staff at Creekside host this gathering each year.  They are amazing!

Friday night the center has a Mixed Scotch Doubles that many participate in.  Saturday is the Bragging Rights Tournament for the coveted "Bragging Rights Champion T-Shirt."  Sunday, for those who hang around, Ron offers some one-on-one coaching.  For those who arrive early, it is impromptu.

Toma and Nollster have traditionally organized some golfing and Strider has opened his house for pool and poker Saturday night after the "official" dinner at "Golden Corral."

Many stay at the Extended Stay, Haines Mall.  Due to a situation last year, I personally will be looking at other options.

Creekside Lanes
1450 Trade Mart Blvd
Winston-Salem, NC 27127
(336)771-9800

Hotel most have stayed at in the past:
Extended Stay America Winston-Salem Hanes Mall Blvd
1995 Hampton Inn Ct
Winston-Salem, NC 27103
(336)768-0075

As details are finalized, I will update with specifics.  I have been to the previous 6 and always look forward to the next one.  If you are even remotely considering attending, do so, you won't regret it.  I realize the current economic times may make it tough, but I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.  This year I plan to do more than be scorekeeper at the Bragging Rights Tournament !

Just under 5 months to go!  I am so ready for summer vacation  I love my students and I love my school, I just am getting antsy for travel - June Vegas & July Chicago & the best trip of all - North Carolina.

I looked into staying somewhere other than Extended Stay, but with the discount, it was the best deal close to the center.  i booked my room last night.  I'm holding off on air hoping it comes down a little more.  I'll probably book in about  month.  I'm planning on flying in Wednesday and home Monday.

I considered driving from LA to Chicago for the Petersen July 16th and then driving to The Gathering and back to LA.  With the additional hotel expenses and gas, it looks like flying is still cheaper.  One of these years I'm driving

Well, I've been trying to keep my eye open for this post, and finally found it. Both angela and myself should be there to partake in some of the festivities...after all, she has to defend her title, right?

It will be great to see both of you again, and I know a few people who are ready to take on the challenge.  One person, who shall remain nameless, plans to finish at the top instead of the bottom

Top would be nice, but I'd settle for a nice anonymous spot in the middle, where I can practice the art of not being seen.

The cost for The Gathering is:
Your travel expenses, hotel (if you are not a local), food, lineage for the games you bowl (Ron gives us the league rate $1.50/game the past events)

If you enter the Friday Scotch Doubles, then you pay your entry fee
Bragging Rights Tournament, lineage for the games bowled

There is no specific fee for attending The Gathering.

Well, I wasn't actually trying to get there, but sometimes circumstances are out of my control.    I didn't really want the wife to beat me that badly.  I like it if she does, but not quite to that degree.

So you're saying it's okay if it doesn't leave a mark

No, what he's saying is if she's going to abuse him that badly, it should be properly behind closed doors instead of in front of a national audience.

Cheer up tho, some people pay good money to get that kind of treatment.....
The Gathering 2014 is near.  July 25-27 in Winston Salem, NC @ Creekside lanes.

Consider the first year Kat took 2nd while I took second last... Oh, what we do to maintain a state of relative marital bliss, Kevin.

This post is the first thing I thought about after seeing the announcement of her death. What stinks is that I might not be able to come back to The Gathering this year because I just found out I might have to work. I'll do everything I can to make it because I feel it's especially important.

I think so too.  And every subsequent one, too. It knocked us for a loop that's for sure.

I suggest we rename the Bragging Rights Tournament the Colleen "Thong Princess" Memorial Bragging Rights Tournament.

This year's Gathering just lost some of its joy.
