The Gathering 2009 - UPDATE
« on: November 17, 2008, 03:37:33 PM »
I heard from Ron and he is good for whenever we decide.  The group had to make a decision to skip Vegas.  SOOOOOO let's make it official for July 24 - 26.

For those new to BR, this is an annual gathering of bowlers from all over.  It basically involves bowling, socializing, bowling, eating, bowling, eating, bowling, drinking, bowling, eating, and oh did I mention bowling .  Our own Magic Carpet, Mrs Magic Carpet, and the staff at Creekside host this gathering each year.  They are amazing!

Friday night the center has a Mixed Scotch Doubles that many participate in.  Saturday is the Bragging Rights Tournament for the coveted "Bragging Rights Champion T-Shirt."  Sunday, for those who hang around, Ron offers some one-on-one coaching.  For those who arrive early, it is impromptu.

Toma and Nollster have traditionally organized some golfing and Strider has opened his house for pool and poker Saturday night after the "official" dinner at "Golden Corral."

Many stay at the Extended Stay, Haines Mall.  Due to a situation last year, I personally will be looking at other options.

Creekside Lanes

Winston-Salem, NC 27127

Hotel most have stayed at in the past:
Extended Stay America Winston-Salem Hanes Mall Blvd
1995 Hampton Inn Ct
Winston-Salem, NC 27103
(336)768-0075

As details are finalized, I will update with specifics.  I have been to the previous 6 and always look forward to the next one.  If you are even remotely considering attending, do so, you won't regret it.  I realize the current economic times may make it tough, but I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.  This year I plan to do more than be scorekeeper at the Bragging Rights Tournament !

Well, I wouldn't say I own a Lunatic, but I'm planning on bringing her along.  We should be in sometime Thursday afternoon.

If anyone gets in before Thursday night, you can either come with me and watch me suffer on Chameleon, or get some cheap practice after we're through.  League is over about 8:30, so you won't be out late after a long day of travel.

Anytime after 9am, the ThongPrincess Memorial Tournament won't be until after lunch, usually about 2pm, but we usually get into mischief well before then.
The Gathering 2014 is near.  July 25-27 in Winston Salem, NC @ Creekside lanes.

Show up at Creekside anytime and meet whoever is there.  There's usually a few in Thursday night.  I remember my first gathering seeing Ron and Pchee is all his glory.  You probably could find two more dissimilar looking people.    Friday there should be more coming in all the time.  There is Scotch doubles Friday night regularly scheduled at Creekside, whether or not we do something like janderson suggested.  Usually we'll go out to dinner together.  ALL day Saturday there will be bowling.  The main event is the Bragging Rights Tournament, usually around 2 pm (typically three games on three different oil patterns, one being the house shot).  Dinner later is usually at Golden Corral, then either back to Creekside for more bowling or to my house for poker.  There doesn't seem like much interest in poker this year, but we can always do something informal anyway.  If anyone wants my cell #, send me a PM.  I'll be off the entire time and can help with planning, directions....

Even Friday, there's always at least a small group of people bowling. I'm still shooting for Friday at 2pm for the throw-together blind draw doubles.

im gonna try my best to at least bowl the tournament, though ill have my boys and im sure they'll love the gameroom lol. i look forward to meeting all of you, and catching up with a few ive already met. see you all saturday! p.s. for those of you who just cant get enough bowling in this weekend lol, gate city lanes in greensboro, which is a bout a 30 minute drive from creekside has a match play scratch tournament saturday as well. mal runs a great tournament with med scoring patterns. he has seperate divisions for men and women, and both #1 seeds get a bye to the finals. and the kicker: entry fee is only $40 bucks.

Also, I talked to Ron tonight.  We may bowl the Bragging Rights Tournament a little earlier this year (noon?).  There will be a regularily scheduled tournament at Creekside at 1 or 2 pm that we can all bowl if we want.  Three games (non house shot I believe), cut the field in half, then...?  Should be low cost + we'll already be there.

Well most of us are here and having a great time! Hard to do a head count but I would guess 200 people here. Fox new was here this morning and we were live on Fox and Friends, early this morning.

We have some hard hitters for the Thong Princess Bragging rights tournament. Tommy Jones says the would rather win this than 3 US Opens. Walter Ray says his career will not be complete without a TP title.

Pete Webber brought a Storm truck full of balls trying to get an edge on all three patterns. Strider is pretty sure he can take him though with his 20 year old Night Hawk.

Jay Leno drove the strangest looking car here you ever saw. I told him I didn't know he was even a bowler. He said he had to do something now that he gave up the tonight show.

Woops got to go the Hooters girls are here, I only expected 3 or 4, I guess they all wanted to come.

More updates later, hope you caught us on Fox news this morning.

Bowl great!
