The importance of a good Secretary
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:03:12 AM »
I never really gave much thought to the importance of a good Secretary. I bowled at one particular house for three years and never received a single award. My team finally left that house this year after being fed up with the place for a variety of things, with the awards being only a small part. Anyway, this season, after switching to a new house, I have received numerous patches, a 700 pin, and I got my plaque as well. Our Secretary is a retired bowler who can no longer bowl, but he is really on the ball. Everyone else on the league who has been there for awhile kind of forgets what it is like to have a crappy secretary. Just figured I'd bring up the often overlooked importance of a good Secretary. Also, I may take a collection up for him at the end of the season for all he has done for us, any thoughts on what would be a good gift idea that is reasonably priced yet shows appreciation...

Good point.  Not the best ever, but definately a good movie.  I'm not even into that kind of stuff, but still thought some of the stuff in that movie was pretty hot.

Back to the topic at hand, the secretaries in my leagues the past couple of years have done a good job of getting award paperwork filled out and turned in to our local association quickly.  Unfortunately, the association has been slower than all hell in getting those turned into the USBC, so it takes half a season to get ANY award.  It took 4 months for me to get my 300 ring, and I still haven't gotten a plaque or anything yet for my 299 I had just three or four weeks after that in another league.  (That 299 and, more understandably, my 300 from two or three weeks ago aren't listed on my bowl.com info even!) The secretatries keep hounding the association head to get that stuff pushed through to the USBC, but it doesn't help.

Good racehorse too!  But one needs to actually be a Secretary to understand what they put up with.  It's a little easier than it used to be with computers but still they put up with alot of BS.
