Guy walks out mid game - chaos ensues!
« on: January 16, 2008, 03:47:41 PM »
During the last game on our Tuesday night mens league, one of the guys on the team we were playing walked out just before the 5th frame.  Not because of injury, not because of an emergency, but because as he briefly said "I'm done with this crap!".

We waited around for about 10min thinking he maybe went outside to have a smoke or blow off steam, but nope, he was gone.  He's probably a casual bowler at best, around a 150 average, and wasn't that far off his average when he walked out.  So we figured we'd just mark him absent and move on.  That's where the chaos ensued.  In the process of marking him absent, the other team accidentally marks the wrong guy absent (touch screens suck!)  His score was erased, and no one knew exactly what he had up until that point.  So we go to the counter, they don't have it either!  Now we're really screwed.  The shouting begins as we're all arguing over what this guy had in the 5th frame, meanwhile we are looking up the ruling on the guy that left.

After about 15min we come to an agreement on what the guys score was that was erased.  We found the rule on what happens when someone leaves for no reason, they get the score they had when they left.  We couldn't find what to do on a erased score though.  We ended up winning the game, so no big deal, but what a mess!

Wow this is a good lesson of paying attention I guess.  Good story...  I would hate to be involved in that if it happened.

Yeah, that's not cool.  I don't care how bad it is.  This summer, 2 weeks b4 league start up, I shot a framing nail through a 2x4.  The nail hit a knot in a post & shot out the side just puncturing the top of my thumb knuckle that was holding the 2x4.  Now bowling starts, my thumb is still healing & a bump from scar tissue is forming.  My thumb doesn't fit properly & is still very tender.  I shoot a 104 1st game.  A 108 2nd game.  I could've gone home right there.  No, I put my thumb in the ez glide bag & put baby powder all over it after every shot & I stuffed my thumb in the ball & rolled a 184.  But that's how bad it was & thumb was still very tender, but I stuck out the night & took my lumps.  I still have the bump & it's still tender but the pain is gone after the 2nd or 3rd practice shot.  My thumb holes all had to be re-drilled.  Thank the Lord for Robby's Sure Release Skin Protector.  I am still struggling, however, & after the season will get it looked at.  I have my built in excuse for struggling, LOL

Monster Pike I'm proud of you. You could have taken time out but instead you adjusted your equipment and took the pain. You are a real bowler. I'm sure your teammates were happy to have you instead of being down 30 pins a night if you're absent.

SANDBAGGER!!! You could have bowled "no thumb" and shot 700 easy!  Instead, you purposely and knowingly used your bad thumb to keep your scores low!

Dude, next time you bowl that team, or near that team, and you miss a spare or something, be like  "WEEEEEEEE....WEEEEE... I missed a spare... I'm going home... (and fake cry like a school girl)" I'd make sure to remind him that he's a total asss, because there are times when we would all like to quit, but like grown adults, we suck it up and bowl out our series.

9er, I tried bowling no thumb the 1st 2 games, lol.  My strike ball & spare balls at that time were 16 lbers.  So I used the 2 hand no thumb & let me tell you, the ball was every where, but the worst part was I couldn't stop my polyester spare ball from hooking to pick up anything on the right side.  That's when I decide to gut out the pain & put my thumb in the hole.

inconsistant1, I love bowling & haven't been absent one week yet this year.  That's why I had the strike ball re-thumbed & I had a 15lb Special Agent Pro pin sitting at home undrilled collecting dust that I decided to use now also.  Now I'm looking for a dry lane &/or spare ball. I'm getting to like 15 lbers.

Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, but I saw my easy excuse to bolt in week 1, but chose not too as an example.

that happened in our money league and we banned him from the league for life.

there is no excuse for walking out just because you can't throw strikes. ahhhhh to bad.
