USBC affirms decision to revoke approval of two Motiv balls

ARLINGTON, Texas – The United States Bowling Congress has affirmed the decision to revoke USBC approval of the Motiv brand Jackal and Jackal Carnage bowling balls.

Motiv requested an appeal of the March 15, 2016 decision to revoke approval of the balls for non-conformance with current specifications and requirements in the USBC Equipment Specifications and Certifications Manual. USBC testing showed a significant percentage of the Jackal and Jackal Carnage exceeded the maximum 0.060" differential radius of gyration standard specification during spot checks of balls in the field.

The USBC Equipment Specifications Committee heard the appeal, reviewed the facts and circumstances, and has affirmed the revocation decision: The Jackal and Jackal Carnage remain on the USBC non-conforming equipment list and unapproved for use in USBC certified competition.

Nothing I can find on the Motiv website about it yet. Perhaps later today, but it seems(to me) they should have either sent emails and/or updated the website already.

Even with them banned, the Jackal Pro (Korea), and Sapphire Jackal (Japan) remain legal.    Would be fun to whip those pieces out and win some events with them lol 

Just a bystander here, but if USBC had reversed it's decision then they are in essence saying "sorry for all the commotion, but we were wrong before; but now we're right."

Then, in the future, when could we believe that they actually have a clue?  Do we believe them when they make other such judgments?  Or do we wait for the second time they test to believe them?  USBC had no choice but to stick with their decision or they look like amateurs.

Personally, that minor difference in the core would be no advantage in the hands of 99% of bowlers, however, USBC has their spec limits and they must be adhered to by all companies, or why have them in the first place?  How far out of spec is immaterial.  The limits are the limit...

If one were used against me in league I still would not care (personally) because the difference, at least in my mind, is very small.

Anyone who was holding their breath and hoping for a reversal has a better chance of a visit from the "real Easter Bunny".

Where did you read that? I've followed this somewhat closely and haven't heard anything about availability as yet.

This was the bottom line from day #1........
 
After an obligatory stomping of the feet, Motiv should have licked their wounds and did everything possible to immediately put the debacle behind them. Instead, they let the drama drag out and unnecessary left loyal customers in limbo.
 
Most diehards will probably stay with Motiv regardless. The bigger issue is potential customers on the sidelines who might have tried Motiv but are now convinced to stay away. Motiv is an unmatched bowling marketing machine, but they really set themselves back with this one.

Hindsight is 20-20. I agree they could have done better, but USBC had to pull the balls right away. We all know there's a rhyme and reason to release schedules and this was an unexpected bump in the road. They did the best they could with their current lineup, and produced a ball just for the inconvenience, from what I believe.

 
Except that many of us have called it from the beginning. It really wasn't that difficult.
 
I agree with most of the rest of your assessment, but Motiv didn't do the best they could with the public response to this "bump in the road". In the long run, that's what's going to be remembered more than anything else.
