The Joy of High Rg, Low Flare balls/Reactive
« on: October 23, 2023, 11:12:34 PM »
So recently I have been bowling at a center that is well know as an easy shot.

They've put in new lane beds and are now having problems getting a consistent shot still pushing the same oil out and getting very inconsistent results.

One of my assets in tournament situations has come from my knowledge acquired out on this website and also at 123bowl.com of High rg/low diff bowling balls as my ball speed has slowly ebbed.

About a year ago I had a wonderful experience, while all around me powerhouse lefties were throwing big assym core pearls like I was on a 42 foot shot for the first game and leaving back row and 7 pins, ping ping, ping.

On my pair two good righties with house knowledge throwing low rg IQ tours were tight swinging thundering flush strikes one after another, this soft speed rev heavy lefty, went with them with my slowspeed version of the IQ tours, the higher rg Track Tundra (pin down)

Kaboom, flush flush flush same shape as the righties 25x, 24x.  I'm leading a field of about 180 intimidating bowlers.  Chalk up one for the fluffrnutter.

A softer finish after a necessary ball switch still left me with a smile on my face.

Now our latest house problem. The same house as above with new lane beds, I believe they are pushing the old winning number 1 button for Stone street out to 42 feet and ending up with a shot that plays like 34 to 36 feet.  How I don't know but the righties show me their balls with no oil marks after their 10 minute warm up.  Me I have a streak of oil out near my last track on my highly polished reactive.

The ball, this little pill https://123bowl.com/bowling-balls/storm/storm-red-hot-flame-bowling-ball/

with the pin down under my ring at about 4 inches Pin to Pap.  Sanded to 3000 with some reacta shine glossy.

Gorgeous, this ball had never struck for me on a slightly longer just slightly higher volume shot, boom boom boom I had the best shot in the house I guarantee it.  A ball that came out in 1998 with curelyn reactive and a couple of little pucks and rg of about 2.6X and diff near 020 knew its roll, straight up the 8 pointing or straight down the 9 sweeping them off the racks.

All around me the medium and high flare balls that used to work in the center were disasters and urethanes with surface were DOA at 45 feet,  This just stronger than pancake ball matched up so nicely, till I had to move in.

Ready for next week is my ever so slightly stronger circa 2002 or 2003 WRW JR MVP ball.  This 2.57, diff .032 ball just needs a little polish to whip this shot from 3 to 4 boards deeper if needed!  Another pin down to avoid that unnecesary late flip!

Since the ball companies have mostly abandoned their pancake based balls and are mostly making low flare pearls like the Rhino(yes there is a solid Rhino) or the beasts in only pearl the soft ball seniors and rev heavy fluffers are left searching usually unsuccessfully for answers.

Luckily this fluffrnutter has a small arsenal of tournament ready Tornados, Tundras, Storm Various Hots and Too Hots and a Cutting Edge  pearl!  In the meantime the Lower RG Rhinos, Beasts, Tec Messengers, Matches , Match UPs, Hustles, and Urethanes with surface are leaving the slow crowd with few solutions for their speed deficits.  Either too much rev up or too much flare

The Joy of having a few of thes.e high RG cores and pancake and puck based cores.  In fact the more I think about it.  Ball companies, don't bring them back, till I am done spending a few of my weekends a year at tournies!

Thanks,

Luckylefty

Find some of the Columbia Scotts from KY. Also pancake cores with a controllable coverstock.

I have one drilled and one undrilled because they are very helpful to have on occasion.

Ignite,

I don't let everything out, out here.

However, I must say I am a lover of the Scout Reactive green pin Solid black reactive cover.

It is  little less than the Storm Red Hot above.  Has led to quite a few 680s in local tournaments just in one house.

If you know where to get one of those black beauties in 15 let me know!  1 can only find in 14 and below, or pearl.  I want that Solid reactive smoothness 85 percent of the time on the left!

Thanks,

Luckylefty

Have you looked into the Hammer Purple Solid Reactive?  In 15 the specs are 2.58 and .027.  There is also the Tropical Surge with 2.58 and .024 in 15s.  While there are not a bunch of them out there (high RG, low Diff balls); these two could be right in your wheelhouse.

Unfortunately I too am looking for one of those Scouts. I wish I had never sold mine years ago but it had a weight hole and the rule changes i decided to get rid of it.

The Radical Counter Attack Solid purple is another great option for house conditions that didn't go over board with the cover. Also harder to find but available more then the Scout.

Unfortunely most low end balls are super shiny and do not hold surface well or the covers are way too strong and defeat the purpose of the balls desired purpose by most bowlers.

If the goal is to kill flare and slow a ball down why not drill a symmetric like 6x75?

Otherwise maybe shine up that NU Blue Hammer coming out until it gets down the lane, it would be smoother than the Purple Reactive.
