The league next to us..loud and annoying..
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:43:39 AM »
They are generally 1st time bowlers, kids in their mid 20's and drink all during league.

It's not that they cheer each other, which is fine, but they scream at the top of their lungs, shout profanities and whistle while the rest of the league tries to bowl.

My league take up the entire house except for the last two lanes at the end of the house where they bowl.

Now, I've approached our league President who ask the manager of the lane to have them dial it down a notch, not stop, but just don't be screaming and whistling while the rest of the league bowls.

The manager turned out to be ball-less and won't even hear about talking to them despite our requests.

Now, do I take it up another notch or not??

Yes. it's I, the Inverted One..

Common courtesy and common sense goes a long way. Well, it used to, but in this day and age, most of it went out the window. BUT, IMHO, I would suggest that you or a couple  "cool headed" leaguers approach them and just ask them nicely, ending with a "thank you" and a handshake.  Doesn't hurt to ask nicely. You might even make a few friends while you're at it.

I know it sounds like I'm in denial, but I'm not.

AMF does not hold lanes for break downs and AMF does not offer buffer pairs for leagues.  Most DSM will not allow a center to have buffer pairs, and the managers will catch much heat for it if they get caught.

Also no AMF manager is going to help you out on this situation.  Nobody from the center is going to say anything because they are paying customers.  Most AMF managers are instructed not to get involved with these problems.  You can pretty much go wild in an AMF center.

Open play, food and beverage is what they are worried about.

Some AMF centers are like that and some AMF centers arent. Depends on the center and the manager. I see more Brunswick bowling centers that only care about open play, b-day parties because they make more money doing those instead of leagues. I enjoy bowling at independents and certain AMF centers because they care about league bowlers and when you walk in the door, they know you. Make you feel at home which is important to league bowlers. Brunswick has gone more of the open play route and i think AMF is more of the league-bowler friendly centers. Also it seems like lineage is cheaper in AMF houses compared to BRC centers. During our travel league, i saw our lineages and BRC centers were about $1-2 higher per set.

Just started back in March, we go until September..

I don't mind fun at all, but there are limits to fun especially when you take the enjoyment away from others. This is a Vegas league and we hardly have any grumps and we're not serious bowlers. It's all about Vegas in this league

new bowlers, young, wanting to have fun!!!  no one has taken the time to explain proper ettiquete to them, if they are indeed a league, fun or not, they should have people in charge, your league officers should approach their officers in an olive branch type approach and give them a few pointers on proper lane play and acceptability, problem solved, if no one tells them they dont know any better

Agreed..

But is it the center responsilbility to point this out after hearing the complaints or our league President is the question.

The reason being their league could tell us to blow it out our ass as the manager of the bowling center didn't say anything to them. We hold no sway as bowlers. IMHO its the center duty to address complaints and the manager is being a ball-less POS..

If that happens, you have no choice but to settle it the old fashioned way.......that's right, you gotta rumble over the turf.......Jets vs Sharks style!

Inverted I hope you never end up bowling on Thursdays at T&O Lanes in Oshkosh WI, the loudest rowdiest scratch league of them all, complete with guys yelling from on end to the other, the music blaring, change flying through the air every tenth strike, and if you complain they tell you to f!@# off  LOL.

In all seriousness, it is a tough situation.Hard for the housr to do anything about it because the other guys are paying also. If it bothers you that much I would just finish out the league as best as you can, and not come back next season. And when they ask why you wont come back tell them it is because of the loud guys next to us. then the house is losing a paying coustomer and maybe they will do something.

My Brunswick alley who used to have more etiquette. Now placing a non sanctioned league next to sanctioned leagues just to make an extra buck.
