Tree ???
« on: September 09, 2004, 02:50:21 PM »
Is there a significant difference from reading a THS to reading a Christmas Tree shot ?!  Obviously there is....because I dont' have a clue as to what's going on!!

Anyone?

The glass isn’t half empty or half full. It just needs to be topped off.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he’ll sit in the boat and drink all day.

Thou shalt not kill anything less than a fifth.

Which reminds me of the house we bowled in for one season. It was only one season becasue it was a 40 lane house and they cut off open bowling so late in the day they did not oil or strip before the league.
They oiled and stripped in the morning.

So if you got a pair (and sometimes it was one lane of your pair) that had alot of open bowlers or a morning or afternoon league bowling on it guess what happened to the shot ? (Synthetic heads and wood back ends which was even more cruel).
Carry down, that coupled with the "lovely" racks made carrying a challenge.
It was/is still the only house in the area that actually still pays $100 to anyone shooting a 300 or hahahahahahahaha 800.
They don't pay out very much money there.

They also did a sizeable bar business there with a lovely barmaid.
Gee I wonder why.

Jeff - A THS can be a Christmas Tree or it can be a dead wall. Either way a Christmas Tree is usually very evident after a few shots on it in practice and shouldn't really be much of a challenge.
Unless gulp, there is massive carry down that is there from the start.
Higher rev players usually do better on carry down all other skills being equal with other bowlers.

I don't know if I asked this earlier but what is THS? it sounds like it's a type of lane like guardian and wood and synthetic? and if is, what makes it different compared to the rest of the lanes? does it preserve oil better? better hold up? Lemme know the works so I don't have to ask it again in the future.

THS = Typical House Shot.

Dry boards on the outside of the lanes, wet in the middle.  Errant shots outside hit the dry and bounce back.  Shots tugged into the middle slide into the pocket.

Jeff - In my experience skid/snap and deeper lines works better on the xmas tree.  There is a lot of dry area outside.  Keep moving feet and target in until you get the right breakpoint.

Hey Jeff, (10:50pm?) can't sleep?

My understanding of the Xmas tree is that the pattern shape starts wide at the foul line and comes to a point at 40-45 feet.  Therefore, the hold area in the middle is not as strong or as heavy as a blocked shot which holds the rectangular shape for the entire 40 feet when viewed from above.  Even though the Xmas tree is normally a pretty easy shot because of the amount of right room on the latter part of the lane, the blocked shot offers more mistake room for the guys who tug more.  Typically on the Xmas tree, you can still crossover if you tug it...
