The LT-48 was designed by Louie Trier at his age 48.So the name LT-48.
It was produced to be a low-cost ball to please K-Mart,which was achieved by loading
the cover with walnut shell to save money on the cost of rubber. The ball bit the lanes
like tiger claws and changed from a low-cost K-Mart special to a competitive bowler's
best friend. There was a brief period when walnut shells were unavailable and were
replaced by cherry pits and these LT-48's couldn't bite a sand dune, much less a
bowling lane.A bad part of this,we were selling these slippery-cherry shell balls and
had to replace many of them when walnut shells were again available.
It was a bad 3 to 4 months for us as well as Brunswick.
