Coaching

I had kind of forgotten how valuable good coaching is. For probably the past year I have pretty much been struggling mightily. Once in a while I would have a good week, but more often then not I was bowling badly. Its been going downhill and getting worse lately. Over the past month, in a league in which I averaged over 200 last year, I had been having to work to break 430. Nothing felt right, nothing looked right and combine that with the fact that I was really starting to top the ball, causing it to spin and not roll.

Finally decided last week to go see the guy I take lessons from to see if he could get me sorted out. Found out that my first had gotten way too long and was messing up my timing pretty badly. My drift had gotten very bad, like almost 12 boards bad. To compensate for this, is was swinging the ball out around myself in an attempt to hit my mark. This was causing the topping of the ball. He also showed my how my last step (my plant step) was no where near my center of gravity, so therefore I was getting no leverage on the ball.

My league last wednesday, I applied what he and I worked on and managed my first 600 since March. My track is still a little lower than I want, but its better...I definitely noticed a difference in the way the ball rolled and hit....boy was it nice to be able to string strikes again.

Don't know how many of you on here see coaches for lessons, but I really had forgotten how useful they are...and I implore anyone who is struggling with their game to go see one before you let yourself get overly frustrated and stop enjoying the game, like I had.
