Powerball Gyroscope
« on: January 24, 2004, 04:09:18 AM »
Do any of you have this device and use it regularly?? I have one and have been using it consistently for about a month now. What a difference in my release!! It has made my forearm and wrist so much stronger and I can rev the ball quite a bit now. Not quite in the higher rev rate area, but more along the lines of a med/high rev rate. This thing is great!! I use it for 5 minutes every day, thats it. Plus the one I have has a digital RPM counter. It can attain RPM speeds of 15,000+. My high is 10,490 RPM. Anyone have one?? If so, what do you think??

King, great job with the rpm's. You probably could rev the ball more than me to begin with though.

Yes, I am starting to develop quite the "Popeye" forearm on my right side only. Looks silly but who cares!?! It also has worked well for me at work because I am on a pc all day so it has helped alleviate some wrist soreness and pain. I also agree with making one's release smoother. I am able to get more into the ball but be very consistent and accurate while doing it. I love this product as well. BTW, where did you purchase yours?? I was gonna buy from the website, but the distributor is located in Ireland!?! $40 + shipping + the amount of time it would have taken to get here, ouch!! I managed to find the same ones on ebay for $24.99 + 9.99 shipping. Plus the guy was only in Delaware so it arrived in about 3 days. I love this thing!!

G-Money, it is a ball shaped object with another rotating gyroscopic ball inside so to speak. You wind it like a yo-yo with string, pull it and "catch" the momentum of the internal force, then use your strength to rev it faster. Go to www.powerballs.com that should be able to describe it a bit better. But if you are gonna buy one, check ebay!! Much cheaper!!

Hi Guys. I caught your link in our stats over the weekend and wanted to thank you for discussing Powerball on the forum like this - we greatly appreciate this kind of positive feedback for the product. I also wanted to clarify the 'Ireland' and Ebay pricing issue if I may please:

You are one of our biggest markets for this product and therefore we use trackable UPS for all US orders with an average 3-4 day delivery timeframe.

All manner of hand gyro's exist on the marketplace currently ranging in price from US$10.00 up to our own model range at US$39.99. While all operate on the same basic principle of a spinning rotor generating gyroscopic inertia, there are significant differences between models sold and this should be bourne in mind while making a decision on what to purchase: some are cheap, mass produced 'toys' while others are hand assembled sports products which have been balanced using computer aided technology to allow them spin faster without vibration and subsequently generate more force/resistance. Some come with on board computers to measure speed while others do not. Some have unlimited lifetime warranties, others...not. In all these instances therefore, whether bought from Ebay, an online webstore or any retail establishment, what you ultimately get is usually what you have paid for.

(On that note, I hope I have managed to discharge those points without  making them sound commercial or biased on the forum. I sincerely apologise if I have. Regards and thank you all once again for your valued consideration, Rory)

Phoneman, just as a quick FYI. The one I purchased from ebay is the exact one that you are selling on the www.powerballs.com website. I contemplated getting a cheaper one, but really wanted to purchase the one that I felt was the best on the market. It is not, by any means, one of the cheaper or mass produced types of this device. The one I purchased is the one of the highest quality that you sell. Doesnt matter how much I paid, its still a great device!!

Hello Rock77 - and thank you for your response earlier. I appreciate your comments.

Actually, on the strength of the forum, I went and spent some time on Ebay looking at the various types of Powerballs on sale there and to see who was selling what before posting my comments earlier. In truth, there is a broad range available there, both from other suppliers and some of our own resellers. From what I saw there, I see it is indeed possible to buy our 250Hz model without the counter for US$24.99 or for US$28.99 as a demo model (plus shipping) - It would seem that the full 'Pro' version (with the digital counter) is being sold there currently for about US$39.99.

However, if you managed to get one at US$24.99 then fair play to you - that represents serious value for money. I'm glad that you are enjoying it - the best way to use if for your sport is run it up to speeds of around 9000/10,000rpm and hold it there for bursts of 30 seconds each time - do this as often as you can each day, making sure to do it both clockwise and anticlockwise and I promise it will make a remarkable difference to your game play over the coming months.

Thanks once again for your valuable feedback on this. With regards Rory

Ive had mine for quite a while now and its great.
Dont have a rev counter on it but it still does the same thing.
I put a post on it a while ago when someone was asking how to strengthen their wrist after injury without causing any more damage.
I think this would be of benifit to most bowlers and if you are just getting over any wrist/hand injury then its so good its untrue. You can use as little or as much force as you wish.
I bought mine from www.pressybox.com, but theres lods of places on the net where you can find them. Ebay have them from time to time.

I bought one after talking to Doc Hollywood.  I have got it to around 11,200, but with my arthritis, I find it's better for me to do it slower for longer periods of time.  When I really rev it up, I can only maintain it for a few seconds.  I'm interested in long term rehab and a gain in strength and flexibility.
