SURVEY: Influence of BallReviews on your Game/Equipment?
« on: March 09, 2005, 06:19:28 AM »
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask you guys a question about the influence of this site and your bowling.

The reason I ask this is, When I joined BallREviews in 2001, I was looking for a site in which I can read reviews on equipment. I got more than that. I was able to ask questions by checking out the forums and latest posts.

In the past 3 years, I have learned more about bowling, layouts, weights, strategy, lane management, etc...than I have in the last 15 years.

Up until 4 years ago, I didn't know anything about layouts, PAP, MB, rev rate, etc. From the minds of various bowlers, I was able to intake loads of information at the click of a mouse.

I would like to thank everyone on this site that has helped me or anyone out with their game and/or equipment. I find that the information, advice, and friendships are priceless. Thanks to Scott Scriver and everyone here on BallReviews.

With that in mind...have you gained anything since joining Ballreviews?

For me I have learned to see the different sides of issues that I thought I understood and was opinionated about. As well, I have learned and re-enforced some technical aspects of bowling.

I am a guy who's game is completely self-taught, and I have been at a plateau in avg. for about the last 3-4 years.  I joined this site about 5-6 weeks ago, and the knowledge I have gained is astonishing to me.  I thought I knew about bowling before I came to this site, but the amount of experience and knowledge available here made me realize I really had no clue.

Anyway, my plateau in average has been in the mid 200's (205 or so, pretty consistent from one season to the next).  In the last 5 weeks, which incidentally corresponds to the time I have spent on this forum, my average is a tasty (for me) 219.3.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.  Thanks to everyone who has shared their knowledge and experience with greenhorns like me.

Yes yes yes, I would not consider buying any ball before researching it here, I just purchased two, Storm Hot Rod Pro Stock Pearl and Storm Recharge, they make a good pair, early ball and late ball.
Just placed 6th in city tournament this weekend, picked the right equipment because of all the info here, thanks to everyone here for  posting.

I have learned a lot about the game and now understand more of what my ProShop guy/coach is talking about.  I still have a lot to learn, but feel more knowledgable.

As Pinbuster said, the most valuable thing is the friendships made.
