This is a legit question..i really would like to know the answer:

If a ball burns up when throwing....and you stop throwing does it still burn up and how long and how many times before a ball burn up before it is burnt out?

Those two have it right.  And to expand slightly, we say "burning up" because the ball is burning up all of its energy too early.

no, it just sits in the ball return.

if the lane is bare of oil, as many times as the ball can withstand hitting the lane and the backside of the pit and whatever else it hits back there.

i knew that it lost it's energy and it didn't hook, but i didn't know if that had any adverse affect on the ball afterwards.

In some cases, the ball creates so much friction, the internal temperature becomes too great and it melts. Something to keep in mind...
