League rule question help please
« on: January 31, 2010, 10:19:07 PM »
One of our bowlers on my team missed league bowling this week because on his way to bowling and he was in an minor accident and missed bowling.  The team captain decided to kick him off the team because he missed.  Can he just do this on his own or what are the rules for this.  I don't want the bowler off of the team, nor does the rest of the team, but the captain says he can do this.  Can he?

It would totally depend on how your league rules are written.  I believe under USBC rules this cannot happen without a league vote.  However, your individual league rules may state differently.

Wussboy, if you have room in your league.   Quit the team of your captain and form your own team.   This will show your captain how much of a d-bag he really is.

If you and your teammates like who your bowling with.  Why subject yourself to a d-bag like that guy.

I would agree no need to put up with that.

Rule 104 – Teams
104a. Team Captain’s Authority
3. Be responsible for the conduct and attendance of the team in league play. It is within the captain’s
authority to permanently remove any player from the team. If requested, good and sufficient reason
for the removal must be furnished to the board.
-------------------------------------
104a/2 Can a captain remove a member of the team during the season?
Rule 104a, Item 3 states, it is within the captain’s authority to remove any bowler permanently
from a team. However, the captain must furnish good and sufficient reason upon appeal to the
league’s board.
If bowlers are removed, and are not dismissed under Rule 115a, they are eligible to receive a
prorated share of the team prize money at the end of the season, based on the number of
games bowled and the amount of prize money won by the team. In addition, the bowlers
receive any special prizes for which they have qualified.
---------------------------------
So the captain can kick them off the team, but he has to show good and sufficient reason if they appeal to the league.
I doubt missing one night is sufficient reason. So unless theres more to the story....

Only other issue with this bowler and the captain is that this is a new bowler for this year and has a higher average than the captian.  The captian is an old man that takes it personal when someone on his team does better than he does.  Other than that, there is nothing else except the bowler missed and it pissed off the captain.  And I personally would go to a different team just to piss off the captian, but there is no room.

Dear wussboy:

Unless otherwise provided by league rule, USBC Rule 107b provides that a bowler may transfer to another team in the league during the season PROVIDED that two-thirds of the league's team captains agree to the transfer.

Therefore, absent such approval, a player couldn't simply go to another team, as you imply or suggest.

so, if you and the other bowlers on the team tell the captain that you all are going to exit the team he might have second thoughts about being such a hardarss..
