Those who dont do the ball maintenance thing...
« on: August 26, 2008, 05:43:47 AM »
Greetings BR dudes,

Ok, lets see the hands of those who really dont perform a weekly/daily or at all ball maintenance here.

I was just wondering for what its worth anyway, I think it might be kinda interesting as to how many people here dont do this.

Later All,

I normally hit my balls up with a scotch brite pad in between frames and then soak them in acetone after every set.

microfiber towel almost every shot during the game.  I do not notice a difference in my pearl.

Older bowling equipment I don't notice too much of a difference not cleaning very often.  Newer Resurgence I do notice a difference if not cleaned/oil removed after about 50-75 games.

You're just begging for somebody to go crazy about that statement. I know you are joking though.

I was practicing a while back, and this other bowler who was bowling next to me said "WOW, I've never seen a ball that shiny, is it new?" I said, no, it's about 5 years old and has probably 900 games on it. You should've seen his face. He had a X factor which was unrecognizable it was so dirty, so I offered to clean it. The towel was BLACK when I was finished!

I spray cleaner in a microfiber towel and use it while I bowl, that way the ball doesn't build up oil or gunk. plus it makes repeating shots easier.

I don't clean my equipment that often.  I haven't seen a big difference in performance.  But, I only bowl 3 leagues a week

May we ask what you average in your leagues sir?

I clean my stuff about once a month or so.  More if it is really dirty.  I have been bowling a lot more than normal so I may start doing the cleaning twice a month.

I clean my stuff after every set and do deep cleaning with Track Clean N Dull every 40-50 games.  I also invested in a ball spinner this year and have been using it for the deep cleaning as well as surface adjustments.

Well I have changed my tune on this subject. I used to never clean my balls, until I experienced ball death, mainly on Ebonite equipment. My Angular One died on me, brought it to the shop and my pro shop guy made it look like brand new, but it never did react the same like when it was new. Now its my dry lane ball. Since then I have Cell, and a Complete NV, and I clean them after each night of bowling. I will not let this happen again. Had my pro shop redue my Ultimate Inferno and that came back like brand new, still use that ball to this day.

I don't know if polished vs dull or solid vs pearl matters when it comes to cleaning, just the actual cover of the ball probably(i.e SuperFlex).  Although, I imagine dull solids absorb most oil.  I personally clean the equipment I used after bowling is over.  My Twisted Fury doesn't pick up much oil, but my Counter Strike and Rival make a towel pretty dirty after cleaning.  I currently use Ebonite Energizer Cleaner, but will start using either Power Wash, Black Magic Rejuvenator, or just Clean and Dull after that's all used up.

I've never experienced pure ball death but I have noticed lack of performance at some point from certain balls(Whirl Wind and Twisted Fury), so I clean my equipment to at least slow that possibility down.

I have a Black Widow Pearl and Vemon.....I only bowl once a week but I give them a hot water bath the day before a league..you oughta see all the oil that comes out of them after 3 games then take Clean N Dull to them...The balls really snap on the backends....love the reaction....it is a ritual every week..........
