I have an Ebonite One Pearl with a decent amount of games on it.

Someone mentioned that my ball was dulling pretty bad in the track area, so I took it into the pro shop at my bowling center and asked if I could re-polish it and do something to add a little more snap off the back end.  Because the reaction I was getting with it was more of a strong arc, and I remember it being a little snappier when I first got it.

He used Renew-it and said thats what I was looking for.  The ball looks all nice and pretty again, but its going longer than before and not turning like it used to.

Is renew-it a little too slick for what I'm looking for??  Or how can I get it back to "out of box" or at least get that strength back?

Pro shops tend not to finesse balls when we ask them to polish balls for us. We tend to be more particular about our own balls and our own procedures.

He might have put a little too much polish or too much pressure on it. Since stock is 4000 Abralon + polish, you might want to sand it to 2000 Abralon,then sand it to 4000 Abralon, using relatively new pads. AFter using the 4000 grit pad, it should not look the least bit shiny. Then apply a very light dose of Renew-it.

That should be closer to stock.

Thanks charlest.

If I have my own set of abralon pads and sanding my hand, how can I be sure I'm applying the right amount of pressure evenly throughout?  Is a ball spinner necessary or is 'by hand' fine?

A ball spinner is really necessary. By hand, these grit pads tend to apply a slightly rougher surface than when done with a spinner.  And a polish applied by hand is never the same as that done by a spinner, but in this case, you want a light polish. I'm more worried about the 4000 grit applied by hand. It may not give you the finish you need/want.

Pressure does not and should NEVER be hard. The abrasive bits quickly. Light to barely medium is all that needed when refreshing the surface which is what you're doing.

I agree with Charlie,  Sand the ball from 500 to 4000,  then apply factory finish polish...
