should I be worried?
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:24:43 PM »
Hi everyone,
I  have been wearing a Storm Gadget for about 2 years. I started working on re-vamping my game. My friend told me to try without the brace.I have done so for about 15-20 games. I expect to feel weak in my wrist but, tonight I started to get a pain in my upper forearm. I guess if you had your palm of your hand facing down then, moved your hand upwards you'd see a muscle running up your arm. just before my elbow I think that muscle is what is hurting. I hope it's a muscle pain. Anyway, has anyone had that pain? Is it because my muscles are strengthening differently? Could it be something else? The pain is somewhat constant but, hurts more if I flex that muscle or at least I hope it's a muscle. Any and all feedback would be great thanks.

"I guess that its that muscle thats hurting"--there are 26 muscles in the
forearm.  You will have to be more specific.  Different injuries have dif-
feent kind of pain.  Usually muscle injuries have an ache, nerve injuries
could have numbness or pins and needles and bone injuries usually have a
sharper pain or numbness.  Please elaborate.

perhaps your pro shop operator put in totally different pitches ( weather they be reverse or forward)in your bowling equipment for the brace than you would have without it.  Just a thought

Probably just a strain.  Obviously rest would be your best bet right now.  After it stops bothering you maybe throw a game or two and gradually build up from there.  If the pain persists I would have it checked out.  Maybe even use your brace for a while if you HAVE to bowl in the near future.

I had this when I changed my release. For me it was tennis elbow. Try getting one of those elbow bands. If it helps thats your problem. If it doesn't your just out about 10 bucks. Make sure to get it at the drug store not at the pro shop. Should save you about 10 bucks.

It feels like a strong ache not sharp. No pins and needles.

that is just muscle soreness... Some people after they have been bowling for a while with a brace their arm gets used to the motions of bowling with the brace on so when they bowl without it, the muscles might be used more without the brace on

I hope so, there seems to be a little swelling, feels as though I worked a muscle. I tried some ice this morning. What else can I do to calm down the pain? Luckily for me, I don't have to bowl again until Sunday. Thanks everyone!

Hey snowman,

If your hand is typically under the ball (in set up), then you were utilizing the brace to help you hold a certain position with your wrist (possibly flat or firm?).  I'm assuming that once you removed the brace, you tried to maintain that same hand position but now you are using muscles/tendons to do so.  This could cause the soreness you're describing.  The brace was supporting your wrist and weight of the ball but now you are physically doing it.

Until you bowl again, you might try taking some over the counter (check w/ your doctor first) medication that reduces inflamation.  Your muscles/tendons sound like they've been over worked.  Hope this helps some...

I have some other suggestions but I need to know more details about your game.  Feel free to pm me, thanks.
