seeing as i am a lefty, i generally don't have to worry about someone else purposely ruining my shot. until last night.

i mentioned to some of the guys i was bowling against how they drop in score after 2 or 3 games because a few of the guys throw plastic, the oil gets pushed down into the breakpoint, and the resin boys start over-undering. well a buddy i was bowling pot games with loses to me, and next game out he pulls up a plastic ball and goes stright up 8 board into my breakpoint. sure enough, by the end of the game my reaction was about as predictable as Texas weather. i am not stupid nor am i a "one shot" type of bowler. i saw what was happening and moved outside his line with a more lengthy ball and let it hook-set into the pocket from 4-5 board. i still lost, but the next game  he again tried to follow my line but couldn't get recovery from my angle, and i recieved my winnings by the 8th frame (i was sitting on a 6 bagger to his 7th frame open score of 112).

aside from using plastic to push oil, what would be an applicable way to toast someone else's shot? him and i get along well, we don't bet HUGE amounts of money,  but we are most definitely competitive. so him joking around and FUBARing my shot on purpose deems retribution.

i have an ultimate inferno that would gobble up oil with some sanding. if i were to purposely eat his shot with it, how long would it take and where should i throw it?

throw a REALLY dull ball on their line. (i mean dull, like if you really wanna dry it up probably 3-500 grit) Only thing is you have to be able to throw it pretty fast so that it doesn't really have time to react, it just sucks up their oil.

well it is stacked 3 3/8, so it definitely flares. i think i am going to drag it down to 200ish grit and see what happens, LOL! it really is all in fun (only betting like $10-$25 a game), so i want to see his reaction when he can't hit the pocket worth a damn.

I had always thought that you would use a ball that did NOT flare much because you're going to be trying to roll the ball in a straight line.

Drilling it to help you throw it completely straight and then dulling it into the sub-300 grit range was what I thought was done.

Then you can burn yourself an area by picking up the oil on whatever board you roll it down.

Just because the ball flares doesn't mean it is going to hook at your toes.....

i agree, hence wanting to use my ultimate inferno for the task at hand. it flares like CRAZY and always brings back a ton of oil.

Seems to me you should practice to become an all around bowler rather thaan trying to mess somebodys shot up, besides that there are balls made today for just that thing that work well, practice, practice, practice is the answer

I don't recall anyone trying to burn up somebody else's shot.  Usually you try to blow open a shot for yourself.  This is somewhat common at Nationals, specially if you get both teams on your pair working together.  You can open up a shot for everybody.

It works on PBA conditions when you are bowling multiple games on the same pair.  You can break down your shot and open up some hook.  When changing lanes every game, it doesn't work too well.  In regional and tour match play, we bowl in fresh every time, so sometimes you can use most of your 15 minutes of practice to open up your shot, you are going to be on this pair for more than one game.

Hope this helps ya.....
