If so, how many games are normally thrown for you to consider 'broken-in'?

The only situation I can see applying to your topic is when a person drills a ball with a really high gloss out of the box finish.  I think after a couple or three sets a ball like that would settle in a little.

I believe from what I have seen they do. By my experience I noticed that a 150-170 average bowler will peak right after getting a new ball. Mostly of the pro-active type. It seems to me the ball is extremely active for the first couple of weeks and then takes on some oil and track marks and comes back down to earth. I have seen this many times over. In the end they certainly gain by the new ball but they don't shoot 650's like the first week or two.

i have seen on here in the past that the newer hammer pearl balls have like a animal based coating on it and once that coating wears off people seem to get a better reaction, most of the staffers sand them and repolish i have heard

don't quote me on it
