Let's say you throw the first 11...

What would you do????

A)  Try for another strike, and possibly a 300, like so many thousands of others have already done, or...

B)  Shoot for the 7-pin or 10-pin and be the first person to throw a 291.


Tough choice but I think I would have to go for one of the corner pins!

Never had a 300 but if I ever get a chance at it, I'm telling you now, I'll be going for 291 instead! LOL

291s have been done a bunch of times.
292 was the one rumored to never have been done, but there are 14 or so sanctoned 292s now.

Last year a friend acquaintance decided to go for 292.

He was totally dialed in and had many 3's.

He got nervous as he aimed for the 10 pin and tugged, grazed the pocket from 15 boards deeper and got 9.

I thought he looked like a jerk!

As stupid as it sounds, I think not trying to strike is no less sandbagging than tanking a ten pin or seven pin in a low game.  Always do your best.  Always.

dont know about anyone else... but i couldnt PURPOSLY bowl a bad ball. Just seems so wrong, i dont know how sandbaggers live at night.

If I ever get the first 11 again, I would go for the 300, why not. The way I have bowled lately, if I threw a good shot I wouldnt carry, and if I threw a bad shot trying to get 2 or 3, I would probably pull it and strike, or drop it in the ditch for 290. I say it doesnt matter if you have no 300's or 30, always go for it.

You are all idiots if you don't go for the 300. You think for a minute that you can throw a 1 or 2 on purpose??  Get real and get your ring and jacket and all the bragging rights that go with it.

I don't think I have to worry about it... I usually throw the first 11 by the middle of the 6th frame.

after throwing my first one, i will always go for the strike at the end.  but i will say this...with so many 300s being rolled, a 292 would be a great score to brag about...2 counts are tougher than strikes.
