Best Arsenal?
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:42:24 AM »
I'm making the move down to 15lb's, and I was curious who is making the best equipment right now? I think I've seen a lot of companies making a great ball here and there, but are there any manufacturers out there making enough quality product to stay within one brand?

The arsenal I will be replacing:
Reign of Fire
Blast Zone
HyRoad
Gravity Shift
Bedlam
Freeze
Mercury
Power Groove

Out of these I basically only use the HyRoad, Bedlam, and Gravity Shift. I know I want to get a Nomad Dagger and I won't throw Brunswick unless the ball is free, but other than that I'm pretty much open to ideas on building my next arsenal. I know we get these posts daily, but thanks ahead of time for the help.

Okay, well tonight I purchased:

Rotogrip Grenade
Rotogrip Dagger
Track 505T

I will be getting them drilled up tommorrow. I was going to wait, but a local pro shop was running a christmas special and I was able to get all of them 20-30 dollars under the price on buddies and bowlingball.com

For those using the 505T and saying it's really a lot of ball for the price, what surface are you finding the best use out of it for a benchmark ball?

Any thoughts on any of these, the shop was running a special a $100 out the door on:

Invasion
Complete Bedlam
Track 920T
Track 920A
Vital Sign

My ball driller suggested I pick up the 920A as my big backend ball for longer oil to give me something to compliment the Theory I plan on purchasing. Any thoughts?

I personally like the 505T at 2000Ab, very versatile and get smoother after about 6 games.

My buddy has a 920a and it has a nice angular but very smooth move, its a nice ball from what I see. I have not thrown it

One more thing, before I switched to Track 2 months ago I threw mostly Roto Grip and I can tell you I loved the Nomad Solid, it was my benchmark! Im sure the Dagger with that core will be a great ball.

Let me know how you like it and the grenade!

I have always wanted to throw the Nomad line, but just never really ended up purchasing a ball. I think was turned off by the 5 rating on a sport short on bowling this month. I know a ton of people that wax poetic about that bowling ball though. When I heard they were going to come out with a hybrid I knew I wanted that ball, and luckily I have been able to the Dagger so I know what I'm getting and it is what I'm looking for. I think I'll have a great benchmark lineup between the 505T and the Dagger. Now I need to fill some spots above and below (down to the Grenade). So I still have 4 spots to fill.

Heavy -
M/H   - 505T
M     - Dagger
M/D   -
Dry   - Grenade

So I need a true oiler, a strong pearl for m/h (920A?), a weak solid for m/d, and probably another ball to provide me a look on the medium whether it be solid, pearl, or another hybrid (715C?).

If you like the motion of the Grenade, then the Dark Star( I have and love) will fit right above it!.

See how you like the 505T, if you like it, you may want to try the 715T for a heavy oiler, although I have to say the THEORY looks great on Video and I am a huge fan of Roto Grip also...

I only had time to get one of the balls drilled up so I punched up the 505T and I must say I can see why so many people are impressed with this ball. I will probably hold off on drilling the Dagger and Grenade until I get a better feel of how I want them to fit in terms of ball shape compared to the 505T.

Speaking to the 505T I was quite impressed with the ball. I went with a pin under the bridge and between the fingers with the MB kicked out about 2 inches from the thumb. When we took it out the ball would read the midlane really hard, but it was leaving a lot of corner pins. We went back into the shop and put a very small flare increasing hole and it helped spread the flare out on the ball better and started kicking out the corners with ease.

I was bowling on Kegel's Dead Man's Curve, and the 505T allowed me to start along the oil line and slowly move deeper and deeper inside without losing energy in the front or back part of the lane. I have been pretty impressed with the new stuff Track is putting out, and depending on what you guys think I might go ahead and pick up that 920A.

Even with the 4000 box surface I was impressed with how even and yet strong this ball was.

I think you will see once you get a few more games on it, it will smooth out even more. What i like is it seems to never loses its drive at any angle for me. Now I have it pin up 65x4.5x30....

Okay, still looking for ideas, and after being able to throw my friends dagger I returned the ball before I drilled it. So right now this is what I have and the gaps I have to fill:

Heavy:
Heavy Pearl: Track 920A
Medium/Heavy: Track 505T
Med Solid: Track 607A
Medium Pearl:
Medium/Light:
Light: Grenade

Any thoughts on what to fill out the rest of the arsenal with? I was able to throw the Theory as well and I'm pretty sure that's out. You can also throw Brunswick in there...
