Pocket 7-10
« on: January 11, 2005, 11:52:29 AM »
What exactly causes this?  Is it bad angle, too much or not enough speed, ball not finishing strong enough?  It seems I have been leaving one every couple of games for about the past month.

The guy in the back doesnt want you to carry well......

It could be a lot of things of some combined together:
Less revs little more speed from outside
low entry angle from inside on a light hit
bad rack (my favorite reason)
bad carry (my 2nd favorite reason)

A combination of anything above and many, many other reasons. I left 2 of them back to back on the right lane last Friday night. Felt good off of my hand but didnt cooperate at the pins. Pick it up for a patch....

Yeah maybe I will just chalk it up as bad luck or a bad rack  Can't be my fault It seems like everytime I leave it, the ball feels great coming off my hand and looks pretty flush in the pocket but I guess I could be wrong.

Usually it's a weak light hit, which is usually the bowler's fault. However, in today's game, the final result is usually also due to a high degree of bad luck because pins are normally flying all over the place and one of both fall down.

I can tell(most of the time) when im going to leave a 10 pin, but when I leave a 7-10 its off a shot that just feels GOOD. As inverted said, most of the time it comes from the blow out strike where the 5 slides the 7 pin out, but fails.

Ive been told its from too much angle? Maybe I miss heard. And as for the 7-9. Been there, done that. Its more insulting then the 7-10.

The only time ive spared the 7-10 was from a pocket leave. It was in practice, so I just hurled the ball down the lane as fast as I could, low and behold out pops the 10 pin and down goes the 7. The PERFECT revenge

good luck and high scoring

ive got a rolly drilled v2 pearl that on light-med light that rolls out at about 40 feet and loves to leave 5-7s and 7-10s...it gets A TON of deflection

if i go up the back its much less prone to it(just the way i throw it i guess) but if i give it quite of bit of sideroll crazy stuff starts happening.

thats why i havent thrown it in a long time even though its got my high game on it.  (no its not for sale right now)

Bouwens,

I believe you are right.  You tend to leave the pocket 7-10 when the ball gets a little too deep down the lane and comes in behind the head pin.  That is why they are saying bowling is more about reading the midlane and not so much of trying to get a strong backend reaction.  A pocket 7-10 is 50% entry angle and 50% bad luck.

I bowled in a tourney with a guy that was leaving them more than once a game. His ball was rolling out, and hitting terrible.

I think I've only left a 7-10 once or twice in my two years of bowling (knocking on wood), usually a ringing 10!

I completely agree with Bob7....most of the time I feel like I made a decent shot but as soon as it hits i understand why because the ball has scooted through the breakpoint and it late hitting the hole.....most of the time im on a string and I just kinda juice one cause im trying to go big and thats when it happens....i get really mad when im already havin a bad night and i do it to add salt to the already open and burning wound.

That, or too much entry angle.
