Thumb Inserts?
« on: April 14, 2010, 10:30:12 AM »
Hey guys, my thumb has been getting ripped up for years while bowling, pitch changes have helped to some extent but have failed to get rid of the problem. I have decided that my thumb is just a p*ssy! I have been using thumb slugs for the longest time now, and am starting to think that a change to thumb inserts might be a option... first and foremost they are pre-oval, and I have always had a huge problem with getting the right shape oval in my thumbs (one is good the next is too tight, so forth) so that would be a nice change. My question is do the Vinyl inserts feel different than your generic thumb slug? I need something that is going to be "easier" on my skin!

Have you thought about a thumb mold? Once you find the thumb fit you want all your bowling balls to feel like, so far as thumb fit, get a mold of the thumb and have the thumb slugs made from the mold.  I think this worked out extremely well for me.

+1 on thumb molds.  I've had Buddies Proshop doing them for the past 2 years.  I'll never go back to anything else.

I've just started used oval thumb inserts and they work great, the only thing I have to do if I bowl back to back days is push down my callous on either side of my thumb, once I'm in I'm in pretty good shape, remember folks, your thumb is not round it's oval.  One thing I've notice is the pro shop and most pro shops won't carry oval thumbs, they need to order them and it's a smaller hole size than a regular slug
