when I bowl in the morning or afternoon I can't get my thumb in the ball but it fits fine for my night leagues.....anyone have a suggestion besides drilling a ball for day leagues or going with switch grips

I think what you're experiencing is fairly normal. For me, I just leave room in every thumb hole for 4-5 pieces of tape and remove some if I bowl mornings and my thumb is bigger.

Like he said ^^^. I have a hard time squeezing my thumb in the ball for a morning tournament.

I have a similar issue. What I've found useful is to shrink my thumb before bowling. To do this, I use 2 Vise Vinyl Thumb Inserts. One is slightly smaller than my expanded thumb size, and the second fits my ideal non-swelling thumb size. I use the first to partially reduce the size, and the second to then bring the thumb size down to what comfortably fits in my ball.
I've used this technique for years and it works well. It's especially effective if you don't like using lots of tape in your thumb hole. Give it a try. At worst, it's a cheap experiment.

I have a friend who does this with success. The year I went to Baton Rouge for nationals it may not have been enough. I pulled out several pieces of tape and opened up the thumb hole even more... The heat and humidity (maybe change of diet, too) really had my thumb swollen a bunch.

I have done the same. It works well.

You're correct -- there are times when heat, humidity (or whatever) cause the thumb to excessively swell, and reducing efforts don't always get the job 100% done. I have a set of slightly larger IT thumb for this scenario. I don't have to use them often, but they're an effective second option.
