Thumb Issues
« on: September 13, 2009, 08:03:37 PM »
So I went to a new proshop far away (about an hour drive) to have a lesson with this guy.  Long story short, I had one of the best lessons ever.  He fixed my timing problem and now I am able to start the ball at the same time of my first step.

My coach showed me a video of my release and it shows that just before the ball passes my ankle, my hand is at 7:00, however, my hand rotates with the thumb still in the ball, which comes out at the last minute and robing me of revs.

My question is how can I clear the thumb early enough so I still have enough time rotate and follow through?

A - Simply "let go". I found that it can be that easy, because you can tend to cling to the ball, which leads to... Sometimes, a little concentration on the release point already does the trick.

B - Do you use tape? Chances are high that the thumb hole is a tad too wide, so that you have to cling to the ball in your swing, which prevents a fluid and timely release.

C - it could also be a pitch or bevel problem that prevents you from a clean release.
