Thumb Mold Question

Where do I begin, I recently had to have my favorite thumb re-molded after my local pro somehow lost the original mold he had done a few months back. Anyway I recently had a new ball drilled up and noticed this mold felt different than the others, it felt slightly bigger with touch more oval which caused me some trouble feeling relaxed in the ball. My previous two molds were poured white, the new ball was poured blue to match the color of the ball. Is it possible some dyes to color the mold create a different feel? I'm open to any suggestions, I plan on messing with tape to see if I can get it close enough but if not I will have him redo the thumb with a new mold.

Also, has anyone ever taken a mold of a mold thumb?

From my personal experience thumb slugs from my mold felt slightly bigger and slipperier when done in black instead of white. Not sure why that is?

Molds are exactly like Tony says. Feels bigger and they are more slippery. I would just do the switch grip route. Much easier to manage, and it is the EXACT same thumb. I love them, and would recommend them to anyone.

I would say one other thing, after time they become less slippery and feel more snug. I've never thought about a switch grip because the first thing I would need to do is get the slug to fit just the way I want and one of the reasons I went away from the traditional slug route is that was a hassle and some times I needed a re-do because I made a mistake in honing it to the feel I wanted.

I can't argue that. But doesn't the way they attach in the thumbhole sometimes wear and loosen up?

I've heard the same thing as well from some and others have had no problem. I think the Vise-IT system is the better system compared to Turbo's switch grip, the assembly looks sturdier on the IT.

I'm gonna throw my new ball with the blue mold a few more times to see if it becomes less slippery and more snug. If not I'll redo the mold in white and go from there. I hope I won't have to especially with a new ball but getting the feel right is key for a person who is sensitive to changes like myself.

I'm like you and have been a person who is sensitive to things like the thumb mold and to slight differences in pitch and span. It's been a curse at times for me. Tape it a little more than usual and be patient it will become what you're used to. As far as switch grips, I've seen Turbo's product not lock in as tight as when they are new, so that's the only one I can speak to. I actually saw a guy throw his ball and the switch grip stayed on his thumb and the ball continued on.

Also check to see if your shop used a different plug material to make the latest thumb insert than the previous ones.  Different products cure harder than others and/or feel "slicker."

I have used a reguar thumb mold for years with many different balls.  I have never
had a problem with "feel", as they all feel the same.  So far I have no reason to
try switch grips.  The only mishap I have had is that 2 of them slipped down because
of glue problem, I guess.  The pro shop replaced both free.
