Hi All,
Here's a fun one but hopefully we can learn something useful. I know on the scoreboard, if all 10 go down with your first ball, it counts as a strike

But how many quality shots do you throw? Do you watch what the ball is doing when it goes off the pin deck? Do you feel you get tapped with stone 8 or 9s?

It's true a strike is a strike on the scoreboard, but make sure you know what's really happening at the pin deck or eventually they won't be strikes!

An X is an X is an X. Once I see an X on the scoreboard, I don't give a crap how it got there. Nor does the scoring system.

I don't understand the obsession with "quality" strikes. Is it because one has to find something they can use to feel better about themselves when they get beaten? "I was in the pocket every shot and left two 8-pins and a pocket 7-10 but the guy who beat me got four Brooklyns in a row" seems a lot like sour grapes to me.

As my friend Buddy says, the rule book don't say "how", it says "how many".

I think the point of this post is about knowing how your ball is exiting the deck. if it exits to the right (righty) then thats not good and you will eventually get ten pins or weird leaves (weak hit)

exits in the middle and your strike percentage will go up.

exits to the left and too much entry angle or continuation, etc... etc...

I understand the message behind this post, but why did you need to "flip the video" to illustrate your point? Same bowler in the perfect and not-so-perfect strike videos looks like he can throw it pretty good with either hand... except when you notice the leave on the bumper lane next door stays the same and the lane numbers are now reversed. Surely I''m not the only one(214 views) to notice this little bit of trickery?

Hi. The goal is to help bowlers improve. Understanding what the ball is doing is key to bowling well. I 'm not fond of the term but "House hack" or not, to bowl 230 means you are probably doing a pretty god job understanding what's happening and staying ahead.

Like I said, this isn't about the strike on the scoreboard per se, and I would never give one back

But if you want to keep striking, read what's happening on the lanes. Rarely will the lanes not change over a 3 or 4 game set.

BTW, the flip is only intended to help folks visualize from both sides. Just using it as an aid for coaching. Obviously the bowler is a lefty

it annoys me to see guys throw terrible shots that somehow have all 10 pins fall, while I throw a perfect shot and have a stone 9 or a ringing ten. But in the long run, I'll beat that person 99 out of 100 times in a match, so its nothing to get too upset about.

Sorry I couldn't help but notice you are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum...

But seriously, I understand what you are saying, mr300ny. It is frustrating but the reason you win most of the matches is because you know what to do when you have leaves like that. That's the point. If anybody wants to be competitive, you need to do more than just throw it. You need to read what's happening to keep striking.
