whats the best way to figure out a good thumb pitch, ive been playing around with a couple pitches, and cant quite find "the one"

As Ron Clifton says, you'll know when you went to far, then back it up....I was at 0", tried 1/8" (for about 3 balls) and am currently trying 3/8"...Don't know if I'll go 1/2" or 5/8", but I know I can if I want to....
