Thumb Pitch??
« on: October 26, 2009, 02:43:49 AM »
How important is our Thumb pitch?? I just started bowling again after a long absence and needed to update my equipment. After having a new ball drilled, it seems that my release is affected somehow? I seem to "fall" out of my thumb too often, even after many attempts with tape ect, It still doesn't feel right.
I'm starting to think my pitch is a little more angled towards my fingers than my old stuff, thus effecting my release.
I'm a simple Tweener 250-300 rev, 16-17 Mph, nothin' fancy. Am I making sense? or just looking for an excuse. Thanks for your help

The two most important factors in drilling a ball are spans and thumb pitch.

My guess is you have more reverse (Thumb pitched away from the fingers/palm) in the new ball than the older equipment.

Without the proper pitch for your hand and release the thumb will either come out too soon or too late.

Take the ball back to your driller and tell them your issues. They should make adjustments (generally plugging/slugging) to the ball to get the proper release.

You should go back to your driller and explain the situation to him.  That used to happen to me when I rolled my wrist under the ball.  Once we worked on putting forward pitch into my thumb and some away pitches in my fingers that hasn't happened to me except when it was user error.

At the same time you have your pitch checked, I would also have the pro shop take a look at your release. It may feel like its "falling" off your thumb, but you might be used to releasing it on the upswing or too late. And now you could be releasing it good, but since its sooner than your used to it feels odd.

I say have another pro-shop check the thumb pitch

I have someone gave me 3/8 side and they say is Zero o.O some pro-shop operator refuse to admit the F up so. Have another guy check and you see.

If you put enoght tape and still drop I bet something is diff.
