Who offers the cheapest rates for shipping balls?
« on: October 06, 2004, 12:31:16 PM »
Seems that I read somewhere that Fed-EX is quite a bit cheaper than UPS, but I was wondering if it was like UPS and only offered pick-up services at business'. Also wondering how the rates of DHL are?(isn't this Airborne Express?)

Sometimes it varies by location.  UPS and FedEx have nice sites that allow you to find shipping rates by entering the zip code you're shipping from/to.  Try some combinations and see what works for you.  For me, FedEx is typically about $2 cheaper tha UPS.

Maximum difference is going cross-country for a 16 lb ball; it's about $20 for UPS vs about $15 for FEDEX ground. For lighter balls and closer distances the difference maybe as little a $1. For FEDEX ground the inconvenience is you have to bring it physically to a FEDEX office. Of course, if the UPS guy picks it up at your home or office, that always costs extra. UPS does have more local offices and business fronts in local communities these days.

Where I'm from FedEx and UPS have always been virtually the same (close to $20 cross country, 7 day ground).  If anything UPS was usually slightly cheaper.  But both have been pretty high, based on what folks in other parts of the country claim to pay.  Just 2 weeks ago the place I use to ship (Mailboxes) dropped FedEx, for unknown reasons.

bowling.com offers free shipping on all orders. You can't get better than that.

While true, their prices are higher than somewhere like buddies, since I'm guessing they figured in the shipping when they decided to price their equipment compared to others.

Not to mention, I think bigBZ was talking about if he shipped a ball himself.

From what people are saying, Fed-ex seems to be cheaper than UPS.  Hmm, maybe I'll use them next time...

If you compare you will find that bowling.com is cheaper. There have been a few times in which I have compared prices. Yes some sites the merchandise is cheaper but when you figure in taxes and shipping you will find that bowling.com is a better deal. I'm not affiliated with bowling.com this is just my findings. I'm always looking for a deal.
