Strangely, i'm developing hard-skin on the right side of the thumb at the first joint. Any ideas what's causing it?

Xyun -- This is not strange, it's normal and is called a callous. Almost all bowlers have them. -- JohnP

Many bowlers have them, yes......BUT if a ball is properly fit for you, you would not have one. If it is right on the side of your thumb it could be one of 2 things: 1-the hole could need ovaled a hair more, OR 2-the pitch is off in your thumb hole.

EXCALIBER -- I look at quite a few hands, and I've never seen a regular bowler that didn't have "hard skin" in the area referred to. I don't mean a callous like we see on the back of some bowlers' thumb knuckles, but skin that is harder than that on a finger that isn't used to grip the ball. Have you? -- JohnP

I agree with everyone else i think its common i have it too. I would just check with the pro shop that drilled your ball to make sure your thumb is pinched right, if it becomes painful. I like to be on the safe side.

I used to get them all the time. I no longer get them at all. The side of my fingers beside the nails take most of the beating.
